Whilst going through a box of photos two weeks ago belonging to my late Father-in-law I discovered these shots of a Buchon conducting what appears to be an engine/taxi run.
Thanks to a local aviation Facebook group I belong to a few of the chaps identified the airframe as G-HUNN owned at the time by the late Charles Church and that the location is RAF Shawbury.
Having spoken to family members my Father-in-law was based at Shawbury (sub-contracted after RAF service) for approximately 18 months whilst awaiting a transfer to Cosford to oversee the maintenance of the UBAS Bulldogs.
I suggest these photos are circa late 1980’s prior to the aircraft being “painted up” for the film Memphis Belle?
I believe the aircraft was de-registered in late 1991 and subsequently sold and shipped to the States.
Any other information regarding the history or recollections of this particular aircraft would be most welcome and I’m somewhat curious as to why it was at Shawbury in the first place!?
Cheers
Tim

Must be this one (Duxford 18th April 1982) then? I suspect it was on/around a post-restoration first flight?

I got the 03. April 82 as first flight after restoration for that plane.

Think you beat me to it Geoff!
Yes a big thank you to all the comments and contributions which has given me a better idea of the history of this particular Buchon.
Just one thing to clear up, would I be correct in saying that this airframe only performed taxi duties during the filming of the Battle of Britain?
Once again, many thanks chaps!
Cheers
Tim

Lest we forget
The late, great, Nick Grace, forerunner of the ‘Buchon era’ with G-BOML and his mechanic John in pre start up mode at Goodwood, in those heady days 1987/89.
The others are of the B of B film line up, and BOML in Memphis Belle colours I think.

Hey Roobarb
Check out the link below for G-BJZZ/G-HUNN at Sandown in ’87 – looks like the Whitehall Theatre of War scheme

Great photos, all! I do enjoy seeing Buchons, especially such top-quality shots.

G-BJZZ registered 30th March 1982, so I think my Duxford shot above at Post #6 (it flew that day too) may well correspond to first flight.

The first one is G-BOML. The desert bird is G-BJZZ.

Does anyone have any pictures of G-BJZZ/G-HUNN in its ex-Whitehall Theatre of War dappled desert scheme but when airworthy rather than just crammed in the venue in London? It’s the scheme it initially wore when made airworthy by Dave French for Charles Church and before being repainted for Piece of Cake.

Some great vintage Buchon photos there, thanks for posting. I was at Biggin when Robs introduced his Buchon to us and really felt for him when it was damaged. He’s done more than his bit for aircraft preservation, with his own cash. Thanks Robs.

I saw it at a show at Stapleford Tawney in 1982.
It was a big deal then, quite a rarity, as I think there had been no 109’s/Buchons flying in the UK since the filming of ‘B of B’ in 1968.
