I think this is a better forum, where the users are far more
mature and professional, most displaying good ethics
and etiquette.
I last took part in the “Missiles and Munitions” subforum of
Modern Military Aviation where some of the users can best
be described at downright childish, immature, cynical, sarcastic
and pathetic, not to mention very poor literacy in English.
I was very shocked indeed to find out that one of those who
attacked me was actually a moderator ! This is the first time
I have come across in any forum of any kind that the moderator
has behaved in such a repugnant and biased way. And he was
the one who accused me of biasness rather – evidently he was an
American who could not stand people from other countries
giving valid opinions of the weaknesses of some of their air-to-air
missile systems – he could not possibly believe that their weapons
were inferior to those from other countries, particularly Russia.
I’ve actually sent a complaint to the management of Key Publishing
Ltd for allowing such behaviour by their moderators (even a
moderator of the forum of an x-rated website does not behave
this way) – and Key Publishing is a very professional international
aviation magazine publisher of high repute and standards.
I also happened to communicate with Carlo Kopp, a lecturer in
Monash University and very well-informed authority on air
defence and electronic warfare. He mentioned that he was well
aware that his articles and write-ups had been attacked by the
same “extremists” mentioned above.
I think I shall stick to Historic Aviation in future, when I have
time to take part.

In view of the title of this thread I suppose I’d best act professionally and moderate it, even though I am one of the offenders.
Closed for lack of historic content, though the Spitfire was a nice try. 🙂

Carolyn Grace’s Spit? Funny, I heard the Concorde group were supplying one free of charge
By: Moggy C - 23rd March 2006 at 15:12
I’ve heard that Alpha One are going to use Carolyn Grace’s Spitfire to run a shuttle from Blackpool to Morecambe.
Or was it Mauritius?

Masters? T6s? – What you need is a good old Avro 504!
By: XN923 - 23rd March 2006 at 14:55
Oh well if you insist.
Anybody who has anything to do with Harvards and other T6s is a big girl’s blouse. And if a squadron of T6 met a squadron of Miles Masters in combat then the kill ratio would be 110% – 0% in favour of the British aircraft ‘cos they are the best.
Will that do?
Moggy
Personally I’d rather discuss it over a pint.
Are you serious?? 😮 😮 😮
T6s have JFHG668 wired up with FJD91s and a chimney full of XX££££s against the Masters’ puny GARMMM3s and FLIX. If you think they could do anything against that you must be even more of a ******** than you look.
You’re just yank bashing and can’t take it that your country can’t build aircraft. Anyway, anything that was good about the Master came from the US and you wanted to sell secret T6 tech to the Nazis.
(Oops, gave myself away, I used an apostrophe correctly)

The problem with this forum ,is those new members who seem to come from nowhere ,acting as though they’ve been doing it all there lives, and offering opinions and advice where neither are wanted or needed (don’t forget some forum members have been doing this for years) ;they don’t even have enough sense to know when they are butting in on a “private” chat between a bunch of mates (who probably were at school together if indeed they hadn’t met much earlier ) And worse still they have the supidity to open up discussion on subjects already covered a thousand times.
B*gger, THATS ME isn’t it !!
One of the greatest cruelties one human being can inflict on another is being right.
Frankly I didn’t think this forum’s general tone was any better or any worse than most I’ve seen. 🙂 Certainly it has its fair share of interesting discussions and its fair share of ones that get a little warm – but passion isn’t a bad thing, and watching others have a good stoush is always fun. 😀

This MMA forum sounds a bit flighty, mind you always preferred the smell of Avgas to Jet A1….
Dont think the MMA gang have sussed what a p*** taking bunch of sods we are, anyway to make the poor chap feel at home, fancy a scrap Moggy? :diablo:

Moggy, my thoughts are that perhaps THAM is “letting off steam” here because he thinks any attempt to do it on the forum in question will get squashed?
I dunno, ignore me, I’ll go away 😮

Ahh the fuzzy feeling of moderator bashing…. its Britains 352nd favourite hobby you know, behind nasal hair platting and golf.

Well in the spirit of fairness and complete disclosure, here’s what I posted that was just so shocking as to drive him away from ModMil:
http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=866929&postcount=199
THAM, you make the following claim:
“A moderator is not supposed to make such flaming, derogatory
and biased remarks on a user”
What do you call this, then?
Talking about stupidity, look at your spelling and grammar –
it’s so pitiful, it’s embarrassing.
If you’re going to criticize, practice what you preach.
You’re welcome to post on whichever forum here that you wish. But, if someone points out flaws in your logic or your reasoning, then it’s not very civil of you to resort to insults. Nor should you have to be subjected to that yourself.
As for my “veiled bias” comment, that was the impression that you gave. You were more than welcome to respond if you felt that you were being characterized unfairly, but you didn’t. You decided to single out the US citing two blue-on-blue air combat incidents. What exactly did that have to do with a discussion of BVR AAMs that you felt so important to include? Or the bit you posted on the TF-30 engine? You explained that you felt that the R-77 was a very capable BVR weapon. Fine. But then you went off on a tangent and mentioned that you felt the US-made TF-30 was less than stellar, and that the US has serious issues with target recognition. You went off topic twice, both times commenting about your opinions regarding the US military or its technology. Ergo, it seemed like you definitely did have an axe to grind for some reason, hence the “veiled bias” comment. I could care less what you think of the US, Americans, or whatnot. The point was that you were going out of your way to single out a nation while at the same time insisting that you weren’t. That’s why I felt that yes, you definitely were displaying a degree of bias.
As for the “ending with if I wanted to leave that particular topic, it would be fine with him.” bit, this is what you said:
I will leave this topic at that.
This was my reply: “Sounds fine to me.”
You were leaving. Clearly, I had issue with your claims. So why should I have a problem with you leaving that thread? Regardless, my personal opinion on whether or not you should respond should have no bearing on your continued ability to do so.
You claim you have been flamed and viciously attacked. I think you’re overreacting because your opinions and viewpoints were not agreed with.

My question to THAM is: How does he know how well X-Rated sites are Moderated? 😀
By: EN830 - 22nd March 2006 at 12:58
Historic has had its moments, however since a former moderator self moderated himself and has not returned it has improved somewhat. Not quite to what it was 18 months to two years ago, but it has improved.
Sometimes it pays to get your gripes out in the open, however in the case of the “World v said Moderator”, no amount of constructive criticism, either openly or by PM, seemed to do the trick.
In the end it was the unbiased reaction of a third party that administered the coup de grace to this moderator as a result of his (the moderator’s) unfounded public accusations.
Unfortunately things may not have got this far had the administrators of this forum taken heed of what was being consistently said to them by many of the forumites. It cost the forum dearly in a number of worth while contributors who left and have not returned.
Even now the request to be able to re-appoint moderators on an annual basis has not been granted or even reconsidered. After all they, the moderators, where put in place by popular vote of the forumites, it should be possible to remove them by the same means.
By: XN923 - 22nd March 2006 at 12:34
I think there are some valid points here, though I cannot comment on the behaviour of moderators (this doesn’t seem like the place to discuss such things) the few trips I’ve made over the the ‘modern military’ fora (fori? forii?) disappoint me as it seems very difficult to have any kind of discussion without things descending very quickly into political bias, nation-bashing and personal insult. Attempts to level things out often get ignored in favour of taking another swipe. The Historical Aviation forum is very much more civilised. Thankyou, ladies and gentlemen all.

I find it confusing that you praise this fora for good ethics and etiquette and then post a criticism of a moderator from another forum on here.
Might you consider self-editing your post?
Moggy
Moderator
My praise of this forum is directed at both the users and
moderators of this forum, based on my previous usage
of this particular forum.
It was not so much a “criticism” of that forum’s moderator, but an
opinion on his behaviour which I believe was unprecedented
in any forum of any kind. I had already directed a post at one
of the user’s attitude, when he barged in, made references to my
post (remarks like “Get over your veiled bias”) and ending with if
I wanted to leave that particular topic, it would be fine with him.
I only found out shockingly later that he was actually a moderator whenI scrolled the forum page down.
A moderator is not supposed to make such flaming, derogatory
and biased remarks on a user – he is only empowered to delete
that user’s post if he deems it improper within the rules and
guidelines of the forum.
And if my post is considered inappropriate here too, you are
free to delete it. Not so much a “letting of steam”, since it is
only an internet discussion forum after all, and users are free
to leave and take part in other website’s forums if they so wish.
My complaints to the management of Key Publishing, and the
webmaster as well, went unreplied.
Thank you.
