For detailed developmental histories of aircraft (political, financial, technical) try these from Bill Gunston:
Attack Aircraft of the West
Bombers of the West
Early Supersonic Fighters of the West
and essays on a variety of topics..
Plane Speaking…
He was an insider within UK aeropsace industry (Hawker, IIRC) for years before he turned into a journalist, lots of good “inside stuff’.

Try a couple by Wolfgang Samuel: ‘I always wanted to fly’ about Americas cold war airmen; and ‘American Raiders: The race to capture the Luftwaffe’s secrets’ Also he’s just brought out a new one on the B-66 called ‘Glory Days’….well written and interesting books.

I think A.C.Kermode also wrote ‘Flight Without Formulae’ which is very helpful from the science side of aviation though the title is a little misleading as the book does contain some formulae which, even though it is simplified, still went over my head.

Hi All,
A book due for release in July is “The Forgotten Few” by Group Captain Doug Hurst (ret’d). It is the story of the involvement of 77 Squadron RAAF in the Korean War.
It promises to be a great read about an often overlooked conflict that had a relatively high casualty rate amongst the pilots. There were also a number of RAF chaps that served on exchange with 77 Squadron.
It’s close to my own heart as my late father served with this squadron in 1951-52.

It is possible that “Britain at War” Magazine might be interested in a review copy.

To get away from the European sector of WWII one of the best books I have on the Pacific air war is ‘Warpath Across the Pacific’
http://www.pacificwrecks.com/reviews/warpath.html
It’s a pictorial history of the 345th BG who operated B-25s up through New Guinea and the Philippines and the photos are incredible.
Well worth getting or reading.
