Some interesting snippets about that photo from “Yank in the RAF”. This sequence was actually filmed at Prestwick (in 1941 I think). The filming was mentioned in a book ,possibly one by the late Johnnie Johnston. I believe this bit of film was shot silently and (incorrect) sounds effects of a squadron af AT-6s taking off was dubbed in later.

This whole sequence (complete with wrong sound effects) has since cropped up in umpteen documentaries, purporting to be genuine footage of the Battle of Britain.

Colin

I recall reading about this very recently (although not the bit about the wrong sound effects) while reading up on the Eagle Squadrons. Will have a look when I get home.

By the way, you don’t have to post pictures/screengrabs when setting the questions, but they sure add to the game!

(Hey, it’s my quiz! :p)

That be them!

I’ll have to have a look for what I can put up later, unless anyone else wants a go?

Two of them are based at Duxford, but they are NOT Mk.IXs… 😉

I have a better pic of them, if it’ll help?

Ok, so they are all fitted up with cannon, but I can’t believe in 4 Mk 9’s flying together, back to Pearl Harbor……. shudder.

Well at least I got the date right, never seen the film, probably have in the dim, dark past on a Sunday afternoon. This lot must be ‘Dark Blue World’ and probably all the a/c are MH434.

OK, I found a few more screengrabs in my Photobucket folder, so here’s another – should be much easier!

Better ‘fess up… 😮

Once the hint was dropped about Hollywood it was the only Hollywood film I could think of right for the time, and a quick Google threw up the mention of 602 Squadron.

Go on, throw us a few more – that was interesting!

Is it some wartime government propaganda film, probably from about 1941.
Or a black and white out take from Pearl Harbor!!!!!!!

It was a thinly-disguised bit of propaganda, yes, but it was made by Hollywood…

All incorrect so far, although some good guesses!

LO codes were 602 “City of Glasgow” Squadron.

OK, LO- codes don’t ring a bell. Spherical objects!
