It will be interesting in years to come to see what he does recover and put back in the air.
That P-39 looks in amasingly good condition all things considerd, and for me the 189 will be nice to see finished watever happens with it, flying or not.

Jim Pearce

Mr Pearce has been the guest speaker at a couple of Shoreham Airport Society meetings, and his stories of what he has found/achieved are incredible.

He spoke to the society again a couple of months back, but unfortunatley I was away on business and couldn’t get to the meeting, so I don’t know if the 189 was mentioned. We are meeting again tonight (John Farley tallking about VTOL aircraft), and I’ll try and see if the status of the Fw189 was mentioned at Mr Pearce’s last talk.

Previous talks included references to the Russian Fw189 recovery, plus other Russian Hurricanes, Stukas, and the Aircobra, plus tantalising tales of an intact British four-engined heavy bomber sitting in a Russian hangar. Also tales of knowledge of crated WW2 planes buried under a runway in the far East. You’d think the tales were all bullsh*t, but the hard evidence shown in the thread Moggy linked, and actually having seen his Fw189 on display at Shoreham shortly after it was recovered to UK, proves there’s a fair chunk of truth in his stories.

Before Jim P moved out of Shoreham, to the rural strip shown in Moggys thread, we were lucky enough to get a tour round his hangar/workshop – a real Alladin’s cave, I remember a Gipsy moth under restoration (ex-Spanish I think), plus misc other things.

An interesting character is Mr Pearce.

With the demise of the Shagbat and the Mossie, plus the uncertainty over the Beau, I’d say just about the most important project in the UK at present

Moggy

Hmm,

The Shagbat is still in Mr Meltons barn – has the purchase fallen through? I saw it the other day.

The FW189 has been stalled for some time, and is for sale at the right price!

I think that the 189 was being worked on by Flugwerk who are building the newbuild 190s

Only photo i’ve seen of it is on here, states the Fw 189 as in Germany though http://www.preservedaxisaircraft.com/Luftwaffe/fockewulf/rarefockewulf.htm

That’s one of them – there were others.

One of the links to what appears to be a now defunct site is here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/airnet/aircraftcf.html#F. MInd you, that probably won’t help!

Actually, if you read the entry closely on ‘Preserved Axis Aircraft’ it is British-registered and is indeed owned by Jim Pearce. Which begs the question, is some (all) of it back in this country after restoration work in Germany?

fw189

Wasn’t there a website outlining this project at some point? A lot of Googling has produced nothing more than error 404’s or dud links from other web sites, despite a search query of FW189+restoration+society or combinations thereof.

Ideas? I seem to remeber ther being some quality photos on it.

Is that the Hunt brothers place? They’re opening a bigger museum soon with all of their aircraft on display, including the recently recovered Boston
