Historic jets, help please?

I’ve attached three pictures, one I need an owner for, and the other two I need to find out the Squadron markings.

The L-39C is often seen at Legends, (this pic taken FL2004) obviously flies it in as a private means of transport! Is it UK based, if so who owns it, and where is it kept?

The other two pics of the Hunter taxiing (G-BZSE / WV322), and the Venom FB.50 (G-DHSS) are from the G-INFO site, apologies to the photographers for the lack of credit, none was provided at source. These RAF markings are well before my time, so I’m hoping someone here will be able to shed some light on them.

Cheers

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the L39 belong to Christophe Jacquard – owner of the Spit and Corsair, based at Dijon? Eric Goujon is one of Christophe’s pilots, who flew the F4U in the Corsair duo this year, the other example flown by Brian Smith.

Yep good to see FGA.9 XE601 back in the air, and nice to see a single seater too! 😉

Fantastic stuff, that answers both questions nicely, thanks! It would seem that 60 Sqn’s markings have differed quite wildly over the years.

I also understand that J-1626 was built as a recce machine for the Swiss AF.

Good morning Will,

The Hunter was at one time part of the Servicing Instructional Flt (SIF) at Cranwell. SIF markings being an owl in a mortar-board. If memory serve’s, XV322/9096M was the one that came to CVT. SIF also had T7’s XF967 and XF995 amongst others.

The Venom is an ex Swiss FB50. 60 Sqn operated an aerobatic team made up of 6 Venom FB4’s in 1957/58 when the unit was based at Tengah. Serials were. WR537/A, WT564/B, WR407/C, WR533/L, WR496/N and WR421/P.
Aircraft were gloss white overall with red tip tanks with white lightning flash, rudders also red as were the serials on the booms.

Thanks guys, I understand the L-39 was at Legends to support the French Spit and Corsair, though I would have thought something a little larger may be more useful! 😀

I’ve just been on the RAF website and looked under 60 Sqn. They do have a profile of a Vampire in 60 Sqn markings, but it looks very similar to the 43 Sqn checker board, rather than a lightning bolt. The Hunter sounds a promising lead though. 😉

The owl markings are from the line training flight at RAF Cranwell, part of (I believe) DSGT, the Department of Specialist Ground Training

I think the Hunter, shown at the 2003 Coventry airshow, wears the ‘unnoficial’ squadron markings (the owl on the nose) of a maintainence training unit it served with after its flying service life ended.

I’m sure somebody else can fill in more precise data 🙂

The Venom, I think, is from the 60sqn aerobatic team, Davej, are you out there as I suspect you know more about this subject!
