Historic or not ?

This might not be the most historic aircraft ,but when do you last see one in the UK?

Back in the dim & distant past I saw one of the first at RIAT in 1977 at Greenham Common. Shortly after this they dumped one in the north Sea or Atlantic & there was a mad scramble to recover the “secret” missile (Phoenix perhaps ?). This is all a bit foggy. Can anyone fill in the details ?

I can recommend an excellent book called “Cutting Edge” which chronicles a carrier deployment throught the eyes of an F14 pilot who is also a photographer.

Not sure I’d class it as historic just yet, but it’s certainly on my list of “things I’ve never seen yet but would love to”.

I think If my memory is correct the shot of this F14 I took at Boscombe down in 92 was the last one that displayed to the UK public, but the last uk airshow apperance to date was yeovilton 96 when aircraft from VF14 were on static.

Apparently the pilot was grounded for three months after that stunt on the carrier

This one was on the static at Fairford 93…

I also manged to see four out of the six F14’s fly that were in at yeovilton in 94, the other two remained parked up all day!

And thats exactly where I took the picture at the top of this thread. I believe that was the last F14 public display in the UK.

I was involved in a dog fight with one in the words biggest fighter the Nimrod MR2P with Sidewinders back in ’84 whilst visiting one of the squadrons at Kinloss. Managed to get a trip on one of the ops when they were on exercise. It was amazing!

Must get my video out sometime.

I’m not sure anybody said “Ride my tail” in the version I watched.

Maybe substances help?
