Historical Aviation Advertisements

I like the old period World War Two adverts made by aircraft manufacturers to advertise their products. I thought I might share a few and see if you have any to add.

First up is the mighty Hudson – did any Hudsons shoot down any Focke Wulf Condors as suggested here?

Not a problem. I’m glad you like them.

Those ones above are obviously American, but here are some old adverts I have found when researching through wartime New Zealand newspapers and magazines. It seems many manufacturers tried to cash in on the Air Force dollar – especially the tobbaco manufacturers. Sorry a few of these are not the best but they were printed from microfilm and then scanned.

I am not endorsing any of these products by the way – though I would highly recommend the Hudson from above. 😉

Hi Dave,
Regarding your question wether any Hudson shot down a Condor, I think I can most definately say NO. However I seem to remember reading about a great big fight between a Hudson from 269 Squadron Coastal Command and a Condor from IV.KG40 off Iceland. I seem to remember the Condor being claimed as damaged in a running battle almost 30 min. long. The Hudson was a little worse for the wear as well, but made it home. I will dig into my books and see if I can get a confirmation.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post these posters, they are great! 😀
