Hi All,
Did anybody else notice the distinct lack of D-Day remembrance Programmes/News Coverage ? Myself I only noticed a couple of Youtube short news videos in their news channel, considering it was one of the most pivotal moments in Earths history there was IMPO hardly any mention this year.
One other thing is the lack of this events history being taught in schools as well, I mean what are they teaching in history these days bastardised versions of historical facts and omitting the dirty side of all historic events. I have mentioned before about how are our Children / Young Adults and Some Adults even to learn and not make the same kind of mistakes or just simply know the truth ?
I suppose though with some Governments / Authorities / People it is more important to teach Pupils and whoever about Political correctness and Diversity etc. etc. etc. Rather than somebody they never knew in the past had,had they’re life taken, defending that right that give people the freedom to choose and imagine whatever, .Is this really what it was all about ?
I imagine that for the most those who fought and had they’re lives taken in particular on D-Day let alone WWII as a whole had known this parody of life has become they would not have volunteered or obeyed when drafted etc. etc. etc. They would I IMPO ask just one question:- Was it all wort it as everything ? The parody we call life today where normal has become the abnormal and vice versa is accepted as what trumps actual Historic fact, the common sense approach towards learning the lessons from past mistakes for the sake of not offending whoever for whatever they think they are is a massive error IMPO.
I am all for people having freedoms to do whatever in their personal space but like I wouldn’t ram my whatever down their throat insisting my version is the only version, I expect the same courtesy towards myself. I can accept they have a difference of opinion and that’s that not enforcing my thoughts on whoever just agree to disagree and live my own life my way simple.
After the rant above and at the end of the day I just hope they make up for it next year as it is the 80th anniversary of this military operation that could not afforded to fail at any cost despite the heavy casualties. RIP All who were taken for the sake of freedom!
Geoff.

I do despair sometimes of the lack in f knowledge or interest in the younger generation. I asked my two stepsons ( late 20’s) what they knew of the Battle of Britain. Nothing! They both went to a good private school and have good jobs. Trouble is, they get their view of the war from American war films.

Just a matter of not being a “major” anniversary.
Wait until next year, a nice round 80.

Unless its a big anniversary, like next year, i would expect it to be low key. I look at when I first went to Hendon as a kid, 33 years after the end of WW2 vetrans were numerous. I grew up living between an ex Desert Rat and an ex Somme artillaryman in the 70’s. Time has moved on and interest has wained as you would expect. There are exceptions , in 2019 I helped a local school with a project about my local air base and D-day and there was much interest. It is not just D-day but the armed forces are less relevant. My late dad was one of the last to do National Service and he passed in 2020, numbers in the forces have massivley declined since those days. Back in the 70′, 80’s and before everybody ‘old’ had been involved either of the world wars. We should be thankful that is not the case today, I am sure nearly 80 years of peace was worth it.

We were discussing this just the other day. we came to the assumption its was the same when WWI got to 80 years it was getting forgot and since the 100 years, nothing.
You will definitely see a decline as the demographic of the country changes and to be honest, no one give two hoots about it any more.
we are the last as we had contact with those who fought, our grandparents and parents in most cases.
The world has changed, we had the best of it, we are wet nursed, told what to do, we even get told to watch out for 24 degree heat in the news.
Sad all very sad
