History Channel UFO Files: Britain's Roswell

From 1947 to 1978 one UFO sighting was reported in the world
every four hours…

The History Channel aired, “UFO Files: Britain’s Roswell” TV show in the USA.
The events were re-enacted, and persons who were at the scene were
interviewed. It was believed that nuclear weapons were stored in bunkers
at the base. One expert claims the lights were from a nearby lighthouse.
Here is the History Channel intro:

“Over three nights in December 1980, Air Force personnel stationed at a NATO installation in England witness strange lights in the sky above the RAF Bentwaters and Woodbridge bases. On the night of the 25th, when servicemen spot a glowing object in the woods, they investigate and come upon a triangular metallic craft. One of them touches it and records strange etchings in his notebook. It shoots above the treetops and the men are later found in a daze by other troops. Two nights later, the Deputy Base Commander and a team investigating the alleged site see lights over a field beyond the woods and a red object. It speeds off, beaming lights over the bases. Some witnesses allege use of force and sodium pentothal during interrogation. A memorandum issued by the Deputy Base Commander, which records some statements, is later released via the Freedom of Information Act. More files are released in 2002 but, to this day, the events remain a mystery.”

The UFO was triangular in shape, with three landing pods that compressed
the ground. One observer later made castings of the three spots. The
surface of the UFO was glasslike, and warm.

I hope its better than another “reenactment” I’ve seen about the event.
Bad & un-uniform uniforms, long hair, fat guys, etc.

I was the public affairs officer for Bentwaters/Woodbridge in the late 80s.
About once a month I’d get a letter about it.
I would supply a copy of the USAF Lt. Colonel’s letter to the MOD on the incident.

There was apparently nothing in base files about it…not unusual since it was (is?) USAF policy to purge files after 2 years at the base level.

Basically, he saw what he saw.
The attitude of the USAF and MOD seemed to be..”it wasn’t a threat, we don’t know what it was, but we’re not too concerned.”

Nearly a decade later none of the participants were still on station, so I couldn’t ask them.
To remove a point of confusion, it was the deputy base commander (the second in command of the ground support group…not to be confused with the deputy wing commander who would be on the flying side of operations…who saw the lights.
Some stories make him out to be a much bigger higher-placed official than he was.
We provided the letter without comment or explanation.

I don’t know what the lights were, but there was was hardly a cover-up.

The letters from UFO fans were amusing though. I kept an “unofficial file” of them in my right hand desk drawer and passed it onto my successor, who turned out to be the final PA officer at the base since it was closed during her tour.

I do wish I had kept a copy of the letter to the MOD.
Surely a copy must be in their files…

While we are on the subject of UFOs.

A few weeks ago I saw a single orange light moving quickly across the sky in straight line (my brother also saw it). I thought it was an RAF Fighter Jet’s Exhaust but there were no other lights (Nav lights, Strobe lights etc) and, above all, there was complete silence. It was a cold night and their was no cloud (or very little of it).

I saw the same thing a few days later going in a different direction but it was definately a jet – it had sound, nav lights etc and that same orange light but it flew much slower, yet at a high speed for a jet, than the unexplained light had done.

I teach aircraft recognition in the Air Training Corps so I usually know an aircraft when I see it but this certainly didn’t seem quite right. Also, the orange light was just as strong when it was approaching my location as it was after it had passed me. Would I be right in thinking that a jet aircraft coming towards you would expose less of its exhaust than when it was flying away from you.

I also see a large number of shooting stars in my area (I last counted 12 in half an hour) but this was not one of them….they are barely visible long enough for you to see them never mind for the 30 seconds or so that this light was visible for.

Does anyone else think that this is slightly dodgy 😀 😀 😀 LOL 😀 Or am I barking up the wrong tree again 😀 😀 😀
