My guess is that she was beset by a bad case of rolling gremlins. An earlier ’29 involved in the Japanese home island actions went by that same name, according to an old aquantence of mine Richard “Dick” Greenfield (now deceased, crew position not known). Apparently, at least one engine was a constant issue, electricals and hydraulics were routine nighmares and he was convinced she was possessed. I guess she couldn’t have been that bad, because he lived to tell me about it!!

What’s with the “Boeing’s Boner” B-29 name? 😀

What a shame it couldn’t go with the real Keebird, a sad ending to an epic recovery, shame they didn’t pull her out piece by piece.
