I really hope so, will be sad to see her being handed over to another Navy or likewise being scrapped.
However, if invincible was to be kept as a museum I would like to think she would be looked after just as if she was still in service.

We would like to keep the Invincible at Home! and we are trying to get her back where she now belongs now that she is retired from active service.
I really hope that they don’t sell this Ship because she was the Flagship for the Royal Navy and there is a place waiting for her at home (so my fingers are crossed)

ok then…will anyone buy the amraam capable harrier frs2 ‘s??

as we have seen its a very capable piece of kit for not a lot of dosh…i dont think that many airforces or navies would relish yhe thought of coming up against it…

Much like the HMS Invincible. Its not likely anyone will pick up the Ex-RN FRS.2 Sea Harriers. The countries with the money don’t need it and the one without it can’t afford it! To bad……………. 🙁

Reality is that the MOD has confirmed that she will NOT be sold to anyone, but will be held “in reserve” until 2010, and will, if needed, provide parts for Lusty and Ark Royal! Therefore, by the time she would be available for sale, she will be a stripped hulk, and not economically refittable.

YAY I was sorta right :p

Its a shame it most likely will not become a museum, but if it needs to be sacrificed to keep the other 2 in service to protect the UK (from the Irish as Ja thinks 😉 ) then so be it

On every board I have looked at where the subject of ‘Vince comes up, there is a total refusal to accept reality! Many posters insist on claiming that “India will buy her” (despite the FACT that India has committed their shipbuilding budget to the “Gorshkov” rebuild, and the construction of 2 ADS (carriers larger than either Viraat [ex-Hermes] or ‘Vince), one of which is already under construction.

Others insist that she will be sold to Australia, Canada, Argentina, Taiwan, Chile, or whoever the country-of-the-minute is.

The real shame would be if the UK sold off all those free spare parts, and then had to either buy new (more expensive) parts for Illustrious & Ark Royal, or take the Illustrious out of service early to provide parts to keep Ark Royal operating!

Get over it!

If England don’t have a navy they can’t fight off the hoards attacking from their western coast.

That is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but the UK will do… 😉

If the HMS Invincible is sold, it will definatly be to India. The Indian Navy, is looking for a capable aircraft carrier. Even though the Invincible would probably be more of an “aircraft cruiser”… lol… Its a darn shame to see britain destroying its navy…. over the last 60 years there have been enourmous cuts to the navy, my question is how many more cuts can they make before they dont even have a darn navy? The reason the royal navy has shrunk so much over the past few years… is political bu11****… that right… excuses for scrapping ships are made everyday in the uk… There defence review… “Delivering Securityin a Changing World”…. The pm said that we were fighting a new kind of warfare and that ships were no longer needed… again… Political Bu11****… wat doesnt make any sense is why would any government want to destroy its navy????

I agree with you point why does a govt destroy its own navy? But also as already stated – INDIA NOT INTERESTED, I REPEAT INDIA NOT INTERESTED. We will have two carriers and a third one projected.

If England don’t have a navy they can’t fight off the hoards attacking from their western coast. Eire will have a better navy finally and thus they will finally be in a position to win the battle…. YAY, Up the Republic!

LOL……please don’t I have enough trouble sleeping at night as it is, after the RAF defence cuts were announced 😉 ….Denmark has more people in its Air force 😮 No offence to any Danish out there. 😉

Back on topic, I understand the MoD won’t make a decision until 2010 on the future of invincible?? and until then it will stay in portsmouth in an extended state of readiness?? is this correct.. thanks

I suppose the Chinese Chong Lot Travel Agency could also be a potential buyyer for Invincible. They already own one carrier and they may wish to expand their fleet.

Wan, the way i see it mate there are no other candidates. Lets look at your little list there though.

Thailand does have it’s own but you may a s well say that it’s a base rather than a ship since it has never left port in five years or so.

Spain, Italy, RoK and Japan are very well stated:- Why buy an old Carrier if you can make a new one (Which will probably cost less) anyway.

I can’t see Brazil buying her though it is the only country on that list that would be in a position to buy it.

Chilie wouldn’t since it would require a miracle in political dealings and financial flow not only to buy it but to keep it running. And as for Argentine, though ironic, I seriously doubt they could buy it even if they wanted to, they simply don’t have the cash (especially since Maridonna has started singing- hey perhaps that’s their new weapon, “give us money or we’ll send Maridonna to sing at your daughters wedding reception”!).

Thailand has her own little flattop already. Spain and Italy build their own. India has her ADS and if South Korea wants a carrier, it can build one based on her experience with LP-X Dokdo. Likewise Japan.

Brazil, Chile, Argentina seems the only viable candidates:

Brazil > helicopter platform to replace the scrapped Minas Gerais in her role as Helicopter Support Ship (transfer of Harriers as option, not requirement)

Argentina > replacement for 25° de Mayo (transfer of Harriers required for role as carrier)

Chilie > introductino of new capability, either as carrier (with Harriers) or helicopter support ship (ASW, Helicopter Assault)

What other potential candidates are there? Maybe Mexico? South Africa? Taiwan (if not too controversial)?
