Holiday Airlines – Is their service up to scratch?

When I go on holiday i notice the service is really quite poor. I find the staff rude and the food is really not to be talked about. Does anyone find that service is much different on JMC Air, Airtours, Air 2000. I am aware that Air 2000 is also an individual airline.

RE: Holiday Airlines – Is their service up to …?

I’m booked onto an Airtours flight on March 17th to Montego Bay. It is kind of last minute I s’pose (3-4 weeks) and the travel agent tried to charge us for it! We managed to talk them into giving it to us for free which wasn’t bad – lucky me!

RE: Holiday Airlines – Is their service up to …?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-02-02 AT 08:04 PM (GMT)]For passengers travelling on a full fare or as part of an Airtours/MyTravel or other Inclusive Tour operators Pakage, all meals are included. Meals are only charged for if the passenger has a discounted (cheap) ticket (i.e. last minute) or have a flight only fare with AIH at present!! They ask passengers with cheaper tickets to make them selves known to the cabin crew before departure, then tell them they can pay £10-£15 for some scrag ends!

I say take some really smelly food with you to stink out the cabin! or some really nice food to make everyone gelious! – lets be fair to the charters though, on occasions their ‘flight only’ tickets are sometimes as cheap, if not cheaper than the low cost carriers! for example to Malaga with AIH you will get entertainment – not with easyJet or Go!

It’s an optional request – u have a choice of meals and pre-bbokable seats – i.e. guarenteed to be together if u r a group trip

RE: Holiday Airlines – Is their service up to …?

I’ve been with just about every British charter there is except for AMM. I have never found that a meal is going to have to be paid for! Airtours to Heraklion in 1997 was included and Monarch and JMC to Puerto Plata in 1999 and 2000 was also included. And the same with Britannia to La Romana last year!

Stuff the shoddy meals, next time I fly I’ll take a Burger King with me! 😉

My ma says when we first flew AIH 5 years ago it was a 5er – and when Monarch tried to charge a 10er my dad said he would actually pay then a tenner to be sat away from us!!

RE: Holiday Airlines – Is their service up to scratch?

I have managed to fly a lot of charter airlines over the years. I have found them all to be relatively good except the odd delay but what does one expect when trying to get to a destination with every other airline flying there too. All I want to do is get there safely and pretty much to schedule. So what if the hostess is rude, perhaps you have done something or said something for them to be rude. Just switch off and go back to the movie or read a book. Leave the attitude at home?

Anyway, the sacrifice is worthy. Crete is fantastic. Have a great time.

RE: Holiday Airlines – Is their service up to scratch? MONARCH!!!

I think British charters are superior to any one from other nationalitiy. They set standards. The best one is without any doubt Monarch. The worst, JMC. For bad service, I say….British Midland and their…..”only salad” for European flights for High fares. Dan Air was superb, I am a bit partial to it I have to confess. British Caledonian was a great airline, specially flying
the Bac 1-11 which is the finest ever built.

RE: Holiday Airlines – Is their service up to scratch? MONARCH!!!

I have flown with Monarch and I thought they were not the best charter airline I have flown with, but were OK. Airtours is perhaps the worst (in my opinion) as the staff were rather rude and the 757 we flew on was in need of a major overhaul.

Britannia I find very good, and when I flew to Kos I thought the staff were vert friendly and the 767 we flew on was immaculate.

Dan Air was a nice carrier and a lot of people remember them as they did have a friendly service. The only problem with them was the fact that some of their aircraft were on the wrong side of twenty years old. Do you remember their 727-100’s??

I still have a soft spot for Air Europe. It is quite scary to think that it was nearly ten years ago when they went bankrupt.

RE: Holiday Airlines – Is their service up to scratch? MONARCH!!!

I flew for 9 hours with Monarch Airlines to the Dominican Republic back in 1999. I actually found them quite poor. We had one hot meal: no choice, e.g. beef or chicken and an hour or so before landing we had some sandwiches with NO crusts!!!

Britannia come top in my list! London Gatwick to Sandford in 1998, brilliant – WELL DONE BRITANNIA!

RE: Holiday Airlines – Is their service up to scratch?

LAST EDITED ON 12-Jan-01 AT 11:59 PM (GMT)[p]Well personally, most of the Airlines that I have flown on have been top notch. I fly at least 3 times per year and have done so since being a kid. I went with Air Scandic to Ibiza in October as our Britannia 767 went tech’ and I thought that they were a bit poor; the food was a bit lame and the pilot didn’t say a thing over the intercom. Mind you, I find airline food to be of quite good quality when I fly places. I think though, that first impressions last. People used to say Dan-Air were rubbish (remember them?) but every time I flew with them, I thought they were great. The crew were really friendly and I usually used to get a look in the cockpit on each flight when I was a kid. I remember once, we were flying over the South of France towards Almeria in a 727 in 1987 and the pilot was explaining the INS and all the ‘gubbins’ to me. He was really informative and genuinely relished telling me about his aircraft. In fact I thought the flight were the best bits of the holidays!!! I even remember his name -Capt Andy Pankhurst- Now that’s good service I think. What do other people remember about Dan-Air? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Thanks, Paul.
