In a barn at Meldreth, not far from Melbourn, Royston, U.K., I saw a home-built plane with the registration G-MJZP. What kind of plane is this? I have tried to put the picture in the attachment. I hope it will work.

It would be nice to see some company start producing kits for this and the Sherwood Ranger. I have always liked the look of them both.
The Sherwood Ranger project has its home at a airfield just south of Swindon

In 1985/86 I was involved a little with the Tiger Cub at Swanton Morley. For more about this read my post in “Norfolk and Norwich Aero Club”

The Tiger Cub was a perfectly good little microlight. It suffered from not having brakes but a friend of mine had one and he said it was good fun.

And straight from Flypast :- MBA Tiger Cub 440 G-MJSU has become the latest exhibit at the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum. The biplane microlight arrived at the museum’s Flixton home from Swanton Morley, Norfolk, on August 8.

Dear friends,
Thanks for all your efforts. Looking again at the pictures I’ve taken, what do I see left from the plane?

Bob,
I reckon you win your pint.
Unless I’m very much mistaken that’s what’s known as a ‘Bermuda’ hardtop, sold in the late 1960s as an accessory for the MGB Roadster.
An aftermarket add-on, not a factory item.

RE: Home build G-MJZP
The “cockpit roof” looks suspiciously like a hardtop for an MG sports car or similar. I’ve seen these on two seaters before now, the panels in the top are nothing more than a T sunroof.
Now I could be way off track with this answer, but I’d bet a pint on it 🙂

RE: Home build G-MJZP
First let me thank you for your quick answers.
The roof in the back looks indeed like a cockpit roof.
Below is a better picture. Any ideas? When I am in the area I will check. The owner is a former RAF Venom and Vampire pilot.

RE: Home build G-MJZP
Looks like some kind of cockpit roof from something or other propped up against the wall behind this rare find. Any ideas as to what it may be from ??

RE: Home build G-MJZP
The Microlight is a MBA Tiger Cub 440
A similar machine hangs from the rafters in the Hanger at the Newark Notts. Aviation Museum.
