Hong Kong Auster T7 WE552 rebuild and help

Hi all

I have been a long time reader (years in fact) but nervously decided to register as I dont register with too many websites. So this is my first time post.

I am the proud owner (yes Auster owners can be proud too!) of an ex RAF/RHKAAF Auster T7 WE552 rebuild project. Long story short is that I have about 90% of her…..well, as far as I can tell! She is now stripped down to the bare frame and has just gone through x-ray/ndt. Thankfully she has come through with pretty good results (phew). She is at my engineers hanger who is very highly regarded for wonderful restorations etc awaiting a few minor repairs in prep for her ground up rebuild. I will do what I can with all the mucky donkey work, but what will result will be a factory original machine wearing her original silver/yellow/dayglo RHKAAF paintjob and flying again as HKG4 (as below)

I am getting much support from some wonderful Auster guys over here, however I am just putting it out there in the hope someone may have any photo’s/info of RHKAAF Austers (particularly HKG4). I know Val Penlington really well and have her book ‘Winged Dragon’. I also have some of her original RAF ‘Auxie’ pilots following along to see their old mount fly again.

Finally what I really need help with is the mounting bracket welded on to the lower inst panel cross tube. This is the one for the throttle and mixture controls. Mine has had the front hacksawed off. The RNZAF Museum have been a tremendous help with access to thousands of drawings etc. But I just cant find a drawing of this specific bracket. It will be the same as the AOP-6, and from what I understand the later models had a slightly different set up? If anyone can help with a detailed photo or drawing/measurements of this area, I would be hugely appreciative!

Hank has been a great help and sent me a couple of his albums to copy of his Mk6 VF644, but it really dosent show me much detail in that area.

Anyway, here she was a little while ago outside the engineers hanger just before x-ray etc.

Sorry for the long winded post, but if there is anyone out there who may be able to help in any way, I would be very greatful.
