Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific to begin direct flights to New York:
HONG KONG (AP) – Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways plans to begin flying direct from Hong Kong to New York, a newspaper reported Saturday.
Cathay will start the new service as soon as April next year, once it receives three new A340-600 aircraft, the South China Morning Post quoted chief executive David Turnbull as saying at the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines conference in Cebu, the Philippines.
Cathay Pacific did not immediately return calls for comment.
Chicago-based carrier United Airlines abandoned the route in August last year after a five-month stint, blaming weak demand.

i think it’s the A340-500s that were supposed to do that run not the -600s – might be wrong tho
