Recieved this during the week about efforts to bring Hangar 1 at Hooton Park back into use –

As I am doing, please share (or tweet or follow) this with anyone else that may be interested to help raise its profile 🙂

Write this out one hundred times…
“An Air Fair does not an Aerojumble make”.
You’d have thought I’d have learnt that lesson by now wouldn’t you?
But I still fall for it. See Air Fair promoted (books, postcards, photos, kits, sick bags, etc) and attend hoping to find Aerojumble, i.e. most of the above plus actual aeroplane parts…and customers for the latter, too.
Oh dear. The Griffin Trust held an Air Fair and I should have had a lie in. Still, efiste2 will have found lots of books and models if he attended, and the militaria side seemed to have been reasonably pleased by their efforts. The venue was pleasant, with good facilities, the weather was splendid and The Aeroplane Collection put on an excellent display of cockpits. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t happen again.
Except, if it does, and I post about it on the forum, will someone please remind me of the above law before it’s too late?

Anyone go today, was there much to see? Sadly I was double booked so couldn’t attend.

It’s hard to predict who/what will be there, especially as it’s a new event and also a combined militaria and aviation fair.
When I say “new”, I suppose it’s actually recreating the Hooton Park aerojumbles of days gone, which were cracking events, especially when held in the hangars. Like many ‘jumbles, though, they withered and eventually died.
I can think of at least one bookseller who ought to be there and he has a good range of new and secondhand stuff. Not sure about models – I couldn’t tell you how many model sellers were at Newark last weekend because not being interested in them, I tend to filter them out of my mind.
It’s only £3 entry at the end of the day and might provide an hour or two of entertainment. Note Anon’s comment about T.A.C. taking a cockpit display which should add something to it?

Im quite local to this event, and have seen signs at the roadside for it, aside from the polotics, and having never been to such a thing, what would you expect to be there in terms of sales stands, will there be model and book sellers etc etc……

You’ve got it, Air Ministry. It’s quite simple really.
The only connection Griffin Trust have with Hooton these days is the geographical fact that they are based there. They have nothing to do with any other activity at the site, in fact they may as well not be there. Some of us wish that were the case as they foster divisiveness and vendetta.
Their day is done. It’s high time the management of the site moved on to new beginnings. Here’s hoping. It’s not too late yet.

Nothing at all to do with the hangar appeal…
Ahh, how soon I’d forgotten!
Hooton Park Trust = Hooton Park Hangar Appeal, Griffin Trust not = Hooton Park Hangar Appeal (but based at Hooton Park anyway). It all gets very confusing for us on the outside.
Hope I’ve got that right now?

Nothing at all to do with the hangar appeal – all proceeds to the coffers of the Griffin Trust.
Griffin Trust pursue their own agenda regarding fund raising. The fact that they are at Hooton free of charge does not seem to impart in them any duty to try and support the hangar appeal. In fact, they have said that the hangars are a liability and are only concerned with making sure their own little corner stays in business.
TAC will be at the event in an honest attempt to try and promote aviation activity at the site. They will be staging a cockpit display but as for the rest of it? – stay away, I suggest.

Cheshire and North Wales Aviation and Militaria Fair Sunday March 9th
Just picked this up from another site:
9th March Aviation / Military Fair at Vauxhall Motors Club House, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. Stalls wanted. Trucks welcome. Open 10am to 3pm For info Tel: 07745873491 All money goes to charity.
It’s a Griffin Trust event, but it doesn’t seem to have received much promotion on the net. I presume it’s all part of the Hangar Appeal.
Anyone going?

For those in the North West, Hooton Park is on BBC 1 this evening –

Appears to be available on iPlayer afterwards for people elsewhere, though dont hold me to that!
