Hooton Park Miles Aircraft restoration

Could anyone update me on the progress of the projected rebuild of Miles Messenger G-AHUI, and Gemini G-AKHZ to static status. I know that they will be composite rebuilds using various aircraft, but I have not heard much about them for many years. Has any progress been made, or are they still in store awaiting there turn.

Good to hear you guys down there doing a good job preserving our aviation heritage Stan. Would love to visit some time. So many lovely British aircraft down there.

Bit of a thread drift but we have the messenger (ex G-AKEZ now ZK-AKE) almost finished and ready to fly and are working on Gemini (ex G-AKHW now ZK-AHK) which will also be a flier.

Good to hear the Messenger is making progress.
What’s the long term aim for the hanger that is currently being repaired? Will all the Aeroplane Collection airframes ultimately end up together at Hooton, even the ones currently at MOSI?

Thanks for the update Jon H. I look forward to the pics.
I love Miles aircraft, Gemini being my favourite.
I remember seeing Messenger G-AHUI at Wolverhampton Pendeford in the 1960s. Happy days.

Hi Elmdon Boy,

I will add more detail (and pictures) this evening, but a brief overview of where The Aeroplane Collection are up to with the two projects –

Gemini G-AKHZ – presently stored waiting it’s turn. Parts are being acquired as and when they appear.

Messenger G-AHUI –

Full time restoration started about a year ago. The hold up prior to that had largely been getting suitable workshop space ready. So far the following has been achieved – Tailplane has been rebuilt, engine cowls and u/c refurbished, nearly all control surfaces restored (just a flap left to remake) and the front fuselage is on target to be finished later this summer. The latter section being the most impressive given what the group had to start with.

If you google Miles Messenger G-AHUI in the meantime, you should find various images of progress dotted around the internet.

Jon
