Recently I took a trip to see the U.S.S. Alabama battleship in Mobile Bay down on the Gulf Coast here in the States. They have a small aircraft collection as well as a submarine, the U.S.S. Drum I believe.
In any case it’s been a while since I’ve been there, and I noticed what seemed to be an F/A-18. Upon looking at it for a few minutes I could have sworn I was looking at a YF-17! The tail said “F-18 Prototype”, but you know how museums can put phony markings and stuff on planes.
It had the distinct, leaner nose of the YF-17, the more angled looking horizontal stabilizers, and the intakes seemed a bit different. Does anyone know the status of the YF-17 prototype aircraft? I’ve got photos, but they are all on my camera phone. I think I have to go buy some cable to upload them to my computer.
