Next Friday (May 9th) will mark the 80th anniversary of the Hornet Moth’s maiden flight in 1934. To mark the occasion, there was an informal gathering at Sywell today which brought together eleven of the twelve active aircraft in the UK.
The bright weather showed these beautiful machines at their best:
The social side of the event was very successful:
Sywell ATC made it possible to group the aircraft together for photography:
Three in a row:
The eleven machines:
Some hard work by a few of the crews resulted in this fabulous sight:
Team Hornet:
Many thanks of course to the owners/pilots who made the event possible and to Mark Preston for making it happen.
Geoff Bell and his team went out of their way to assist everyone, and thanks are also due to Excel Aviation for use of their balcony!

Terrific photos again DCW! 🙂
No taper wing Hornets?
Yes indeed, wonderful photos!! No taper wing Hornets airworthy in Britain. Think the only survivors are in your part of the world.

Wonderful. Both the aircraft and the photos. A great tribute to another of the dH breed 🙂

What a glorious sight!
Agreed. Beautiful aeroplanes all lovingly cared for, and a few we don’t often see pics of. Thanks for sharing
.

Beautiful, but then again I’m a sucker for a dH 🙂
I was lucky to have wangled a flight in ‘Ariadne’ a couple of years or so ago at the Moth rally at Halton.
