Plans are presently being put forward by the Government to build a housing estate on a large area adjascent to Biggin Hill airfield. Whilst it doesn’t threaten the existence of the airfield directly,it would seriously impair the operation of certain types of aircraft and would probably put an end to any fast jet displays at the site.
Just like North Weald, the site is Green Belt land and yet it seems the Government are determined to build on the site. Below is a link to the page about the proposals on the Biggin Hill Airport website, where you can find addresses to write to with your objections.

On the TV tonight ‘Transport for London’ has suggested moving Marble Arch to a quieter location. Some joker emailed ITN to suggest they move the Dome too – to the middle of the English Channel. Planners. 🙂

Typical of that idiot Prescott.
Seems it doesn’t matter whether it’s Green Belt land or not, he seems to put up houses wherever he sees fit! 😡
Also a bit daft building right next to an active airfield. Suprised they haven’t planned to build more at the threshold of RWY 21 as there are some nice empty fields there! If these proposed new houses did go ahead, it wouldn’t be long before the new residents started moaning as Firebird points out.
Maybe this is all part of a Goverment plan to close Biggin so they can use the land to build more houses on. 🙁
Cheers

Pressumably within a few months of buying a house right next to an active airfield the new residents will be up in arms about aircraft noise and pollution etc.,etc…
