Here are a few pictures from the last week at work. For once we had nice weather the whole trip. 🙂
1. Continental 767 at EWR parked out at the Ballpark waiting for the evening International bank to depart.
2. This is a TranStates EMB-145. Notice no thrust reversers. I guess they bought a few used ones from a European operator several years ago (Swiss maybe). The original owner didn’t opt for the TR’s. I wonder why.
3. Tons of ramp construction on the north end of the EWR airport. The NYC skyline is visible in the background.
4. After breaking away from being a United Airlines feeder, Atlantic Coast Airlines has started their own operation as a LCC called Independance Air. Based at the Washington-Dulles airport their fleet with consist eventually of CRJ-200’s, A319 and A320’s. They started operations last week.
5. Aeroflot taxiing by at JFK. We were in position and hold on the runway for 13 minutes. A new personal record. 🙂

I’m glad everyone liked them. I’ll have to look at my schedule for the month and see if I’ll be going anywhere interesting.

Have you considered offering it to the prog rock band Yes for their next album cover ?
Are the old farts still alive? Gabba Gabba Hey!
(on second thoughts, not quite appropriate, as I suspect Yes are still with us……yawn…..but 50% of the Ramones have expired!)

I think we have a 135 at LBA, not sure with all the shuffling to allow the three F100s to be based here. We definitly used to have at least one, sometimes more.

They are quite expensive. £134.10 return flight +taxes EDI-BRU-EDI.
BMi flies twice daily from E. Midlands to Brussels with ERJ 145s.
By: RIPConcorde - 2nd July 2004 at 21:35
Interesting.
BMi flies three to four times a day from Edinburgh to Brussels with ERJ 145’s, sometimes 135’s. These are the only ERJ’s we have at Brussels. Boring Brussels. highly boring Brussels.
Not ERJ135s anymore. 145s all the time now.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think they ERJ135s are at MAN and ABZ?
I have to say, I would like to fly in one, but haven’t yet.

The vortilions are quite smaller (or at least look that way) along the leading edge of the 764 wing. In this picture they are the 2 very small dots along the the slat. I guess it doesn’t take much to get a benefit from them

What an excellent thread! Brill pics from both of you!
Any more? 😉 🙂

ive always woundered wat they were!
By: Whiskey Delta - 2nd July 2004 at 21:10
Vortilons were developed by Richard S. Shevell at McDonnell Douglas for the DC-9 (I included a picture of the vortilon below). Richard S. Shevell later went on to develop the DC-10. Basically at slow speeds and higher angle of attacks the vortilons shed voritices over the top of the wing to maintain life and controllability. Basically they are a poor mans leading edge device since they require no moving parts and only have a negligable drag at cruise.
Vortilons were also incorporated into the 767-400 wing but I haven’t found a good picture of those.
