How about the DO24, is it still "around"?

Any news on the DO24 worldtour? The machine didn’t show up in Barcelona early this month. Is the tour still going on, or not? It is expected in AMS next friday, and in London the following monday but I can’t get any confirmation, and when I contacted Amsterdam, they didn’t know what I was talking about (but that is normal because Amsterdam never know anything)  . Who knows more? Thanks, Roger

It’s not on the ramp there now… Anyone? Seen a rather unique amphibian go over you?

Hmmm. Legends… 😉

Atm all websites of the project seem to be down, but anyways, on the webcam of Friedrichshafen Airport (Lake Constance) you can see the Do-24 standing on the ramp (http://www.lsc-friedrichshafen.de/home.htm or http://ww2.fly-away.de/) so it must have left Oberpfaffenhofen again 😉 . We’ll see what happens next, starts to get confusing.

Ok, on www.do-24.com they have a new website project up, seems a little bit more professional this time 😉
They have no schedule up yet, but a visit to Lago di Como in Italy is anounced for July 13th.

Seems it was not a real hold-up, but the initial plan was only kinda “wish-list”, that got disarranged pretty right away. Especially here in Germany there were many unexpected invitations/possibilities (like Lake Constance, Starnberger See near Munich…) for him (Iren Dornier) to go with his aircraft he willingly followed so that no schedule could have been kept up. When you have the possibility here in Germany to land on lakes like Lake Constance (no water-landing for over 30 years) or Starnberger See (even longer I think) you do it! 😉
As for the future it seems they are working out a “real” plan now, caring about the little unimportant things like authorisations and so on, but I doubt they will ever follow a strict long-time schedule as 1. they are not short in time and money (to answer you question, I guess, as it is said Iren Dornier should have enough of it), 2. they seem to get many interesting invitations en route as they attract large crowds, 3. if they have a new sponsor they have to take care about him also (here in Germany at nearly every event they turned up with different stickers), 4. the trip seems to be a dream of Iren Dornier so he does what he likes 😉 (after all it is his money, seems to me like a pretty cool holiday, I do that by car…) and 5. a 8 month world trip is never foreseeable.

As for the website I can only say that the whole web-project has never been very professional (wrong spelling of Dornier, huge technical problems in the beginning) and both sites exist for some time now, they just make one out of it now (again in a not very professional way).

Anyone know why the holdup and why the website change?

As Al Capone (great management guru) would say: “Once is acceptable, twice is co-incidence…”

Money?

Thanks for this info. I had to make a choice between going to either the DO24 in Amsterdam or the anual AF Open House at Volkel Afb. So far the DO24 won, but now I’ll go to Volkel (wich prommisses to be good, unlike the expected weather). Glad I saw the DO24 in Berlin.

Ok, here comes the news…

The Do-24ATT is currently at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport (OBF / EDMO) near Munich (there where the Dornier plant was and the Do 328 was/is built). The old schedule for the world tour doesn’t exist anymore, but the world tour will be continued. The new plan is to be announced (on http://www.do-24.com/ as www.do24.info doesn’t exist anymore) as soon as it is set up.

For those in the area of Munich who want to visit Oberpfaffenhofen to see it I must say that although not parked in a hanger you cannot see the aircraft from outside the airfield.

Well, unfortuantely the site www.do24.info is down atm, and since the Do-24 left Munich May 23, 2004 I didn’t hear anything about it myself. A date for new anouncements could be/seems to be June 15.

But i gonna try to find out, as some ppl I know should know more…
