With yet another batch of excellent images from FL being spread through the Historic Aviation forum in various threads, I was wondering if the centralising of all pictures from airshows would not be better in a collection all in one place?
I am sure the regular readers from outside the UK, and even a few from these shores, would appreciate being able to browse a gallery with just images rather than 3 pages of posts with one of actual pics.
Anyone else feel this would be a good addition to the forum?

Keep it the same , there is a good mix to the Forum – plenty of quality piccies and other good informative threads . The longer lived threads tend to be of better quality that the general stuff and the photographic content is usually better – comments regarding the photos usually results in more photos forthcoming from the photographer – hence the thread lasts a bit longer . This is NOT to denigrate anybodys photographic skills as all photos are gratefully received and I don’t think I’ve seen a bad shot from any of the Legends photos yet . Thanks .

Flood, not sure I follow what it is you’re saying. If people knew what I did they’d look? I don’t follow that………
Anyway, you can find my pics here. They were found at the top of page 3.
Regarding your earlier post – what difference does it make if an airshow has warbird content or not. That’s irrelivant if there’s an airshow photography section. If you don’t want to see what was at RIAT, don’t look at the RIAT photo threads and stick to the Duxford, OW and smaller warbird show threads!
The UKAR forum has just expanded the photography section and it’s thriving – don’t be so resistant to change.

I’d rather it was left as it is. I know what I’m getting with photo threads on here, and don’t have to skip through multiple Tornado/F-16 pictures to get to some of the historic types I prefer to see from some airshows (I can manage one or two pictures of modern stuff like the Waddo threads that were in here). Only way round that would be to have sub-forums within the sub-forum! Where would it end?
While on the topics of pictures I’d like to thank everyone for their time and effort in posting pictures from Legends. Quality of them has been outstanding and went some way to make up for not being there.

What is it that makes Dan O’Hagan’s, or my photos (and plenty of others aswell no doubt) from Legends any less “old news” than those that are still at the top of the page getting replies?
Flood has covered much of your question. I would add that there is some suberb photography on the Forum, but it isn’t always the photos that cause a thread to float along at the top of the stack. A comment made by someone (especially controversial points) can often cause a thread to run and run as everyone adds their pennies worth.
The couple of dozen pics that I posted from Saturday’s Legend fest, sank without trace, as did Friday’s. It is often down to timing. I put it down to a bit of luck as well which I don’t feel endowed with.
Where an airshow thread has already started I tend to put my pics on that. I notice that many other snappers prefer to start their own thread. 6 and half dozen in my opinion, but the individual threads appear to last longer.
But, in time they all sink. It is down to the fickleness of the Forumites just how quickly they go down.

Following my first attempts with a new camera at Legends a photography advice forum would be great. It would enable those of us new to aviation photography to learn from the obvious masters of which there are many on this forum.

Hmm – I suggested something similar but described it as a photographic sub-forum.
My point still stands, I feel. If you have a look at some of the threads about legends they have digressed from the original theme – but along a path that is logical for the forum. Have a look at DamienBs image thread which has now become a stand up-knock down fight over prices and Legends v RIAT. Have a look at Snappers thread about his neighbour, George Ford; that is Legends and it is air show and it is photography.
LN Strike Eagle: on general discussion you’ll find that the interesting threads, or the repeated ‘in’ threads get regurgitated by the regulars – maybe if people knew what you did then they would look at it and post a reply. If not then – like on general discussion – these sorts of posts carry a weight that lets them sink out of sight…
Not saying your thread was boring or anything (although I shall admit that I couldn’t find it on a quick scan through the last three pages), just that there have been a lot of posts here in the last few days and everyone of them generates a question or query which generates its own puzzle, etc. Somewhere, back around two months ago, I put up a problem picture that generated no replies because it got hidden beneth some other display – it happens all the time.

I wasn’t actually thinking of stopping the posting of pics in threads – more of a place for folk to post their images where they can be found easily. As LN Strike Eagle stated it is a shame for the cracking pics everyone posts here to disappear into the dusty recesses of the forum.
And it would just be for images – so the debating would still carry on as it does now in the Historic Aviation forum. I do not mean for the discussion to be split. Maybe just Q&A on tecniques. equipment etc?
I just felt it would be nice to be able to browse nothing but photos…

Yes it’s a shame when good photos drop down the order, but by the time they have it is old news.

Not a good idea.
I have advocated, in the past, that maybe there should be an airshow sub-forum; now I don’t think thats a good idea. The problem – to me – is simple: when does the thread stop being just about air shows and start being general warbird/historic in its content? How many previous threads have started off being about one subject and end up being about something else entirely (and I am not referring to those that turn silly!)? When that happens it would become just another historic forum – so which one would you post on: the original or the one with the similar threads on?

A mix of photos and peoples comments about the pictures and the airshow adds to the interest.

I’m of the 2 minds variety myself, broadband is so cheap now that it can work out cheaper than dialup. Especially with all the other benefits of having an “always on” connection. However, it still isn’t 100% universally available and there may be a few who it isn’t available for yet.
Just thinking back to my days in the RAF – do servicemen have access to telephones and/or computer networks in singles quarters yet?
Perhaps a warning icon on threads containing large numbers of photos would be a better idea than a separate sub-forum. I know many of us try to advise of the content, but there’s no way – at present – to change a thread title unless you’re the owner – and it might be useful to mark a thread with a warning icon if it changes to include a number of photos later.
Also, I limit the size of my photos to about 70k, perhaps others could do likewise. 100k is a bit ott unnecesary really and perhaps webby could reduce the maximum size allowable to about 75k?
I don’t want to see a separate sub-forum unless it’s absolutely necessary – I tend to be a one place type of guy and I’m afraid I’ll miss something 🙁

Great idea – there are plenty of people who contribute great photos here who’s pictures drop off the bottom of the page not long after posting to never re-surface. Dan O’Hagan’s Legends photos for example.

I’m in two minds on this…
No I’m not!
Yes I am…
An airshows sub forum would help those (of us) on dialup to enjoy the forum without watching a quick reposte crash due to 450 tons of Robbo’s finest snaps landing on the modem…
Likewise I can’t see fragmentation being a good thing.
If pushed, I’d appreciate an ‘Airshows’ sub forum.
Cheers / Salut

Sounds good to me, i can’t take photos to save my life, so i do like to look at other peoples photos.
