Sorry Crazy Mainer, you misunderstand me.

My point is only that having worked with the great Ed of Warbirds Worldwide (Any warbird you like, as long it’s a NAA product) I acquired an aversion to P51Ds. P-51A, B, C and Apatchies are OK, P51K and P82, CAC Mustangs, lovely!

However, what most people forget is that in real terms, the hard work was done by other types; the ‘D’ model is over preserved and over represented in proportion to its effect in W.W.II. The P-47 and P-38 as well as P-51 B and C were much more important and achieved more; let alone types such as the P-40, P-39, P-400 etc and even the Buffalo in the right hands.

I’m not saying that they shouldn’t preserve ‘D’s – not at all – helps the Merlin scene; but it’s simply overrated as an influential model of a type in W.W.II. (Add up ALL the other W.W.II US fighters flying and it doesn’t total 1/2 the flying ‘D’s – that’s unballanced – not wrong, just misleading.)

Post ’45? Different story. Give me a Sea Fury any day. Bearcat’s quite nice too. But best of all is the Buchon. Why? Because. Okay?

PS I’m not a Pom; so I won’t defend the Spitfire (does’nt need it either!) so the CAC Boomerang (Boomer to it’s friends) is my indiginous fighter of choice with the most unique record of any Operational W.W.II front line fighter – NO air to air kills AT ALL. Cool, eh?

Those pics look great. I’ll have to try to catch up with White 36 this year at some point.

I do like the name Glory Hound though. When my numbers come up and I’m able to have a Spit V, it will carry Glory Hound as nose art.

It’s my aeroplane, I can paint it however I want. 😀

Depends what you mean by ‘in service’ – operational, training, 2nd line support unit, ceremonial etc. Several Air Forces, including the RAF, still today have airworthy Spitfires ‘on charge’ operating under full military administration and not civil registered.

Well, the Glory Hound was specified (by us) as a short range interceptor. The horse was specified (by us as I remember) to have longer range!

They both did what they were designed to do. They were products of slightly different generations. Please let’s not get into this one again!

But we all know that it was the Hurri that did all the work in the BoB and that Stangs had the Legs to go to Big B and back while the Glory Hounds could only make it to the border. 😀

What’s your obsession with Sea World? Answer’s probably because they find P-51D Mustangs common.

I was referring to RJ Mitchell’s finest, the only a/c he designed which served throughout W.W.II in the same mark. Oh, and was more significant in the history of W.W.II that the P-51D and Yak 11 I’m afraid, old bean. (The Walrus changed history. The P-51D turned up late)

However, if you wish to hold fantasies about dodgy smelly quadrapeds from the US and Russia, rather than the a/c named after them, I think you are on the wrong forum. 😉
