Hey everybody I just wanted to get some feedback from you all in relation to how early the first bank of departures from an airport should leave.
In Dublin our first departures are now 0600 as the timeframe between 0620-0700 becomes quite congested. (single runway ops doesnt help)
In the summer some charter flights leave a bit earlier at about 0540.
But in you opinion what time could airlines get away with?
is 0500 toearly I cant imagine many people would want to leave much earlier than that
If airlines had flights leaving at 0500 would passengers use them?
Just wondering and I look forward to hear some of your responses?

Gary you might want to expect an email from Aer Lingus shorty letting you know your flight will leave slighlty earlier!!! 0600.
When I went in August it was 0610.
Tommorow Ive got a 0645 flight to Berlin and then on friday an even earlier 0620 flight to Madrid.
Would I be right in saying that early departures would be route sensitive?
ie ALC,AGP and FAO passengers dont mind leaving a bit earlier but FRA,AMS passengers would rather leave a bit later?

NCL this year has had 30+ aircraft over night not bad for a little airport. Between the hours of 6 and 9 nearly all these aircraft leave the airport for there first rotations of the day so it gets quite crowded.

During the summer, EDI security was open at 330am to process passengers – meaning the first flight would have left around 430-5am. That, I think, is too early.
I wouldn’t think it would be worth adults going to bed for the time they would have to get up and ready to get to the airport for.

plus 30 minutes to get to the airport.
Depends on how close the airport is 😎

Anything before 0900h is inhuman, given 90-120 minutes lead-time at the airport, plus 30 minutes to get to the airport, plus 60-90 minutes to get up and do the morning things. = Getting up at 0500h.
Anything before 0900h, I prefer a midnight flight, not going to bed at all.

In my experience if a ticket is cheap enough some people will fly any time of the day or night, but still whinge like hell because they are tired.
It’s an interesting question though. I often book the 0700 LGW GLA flight when I am off to visit my family, thinking it sounds like quite a civilised departure time and gives me all day in Glasgow. But allowing for getting ready, walking to the station, train journey (only 12 minutes), changing terminal, check-in, security, etc. I have to set the alarm for 0400. Suddenly not so civilised.
I don’t think I’d book flights departing much before 0700 unless it was unavoidable.
