My dear friends,
I was reading in an airline related magazine that Ryanair will remove the recline seats, the window covers and the head-rest covers on the outstanding order of Boeing B737-800.
Contrast this with the evolution of the low-cost model into more frills for money currently seen in USA market. Examples include LiveTv and IFE on JetBlue and Frontier Airlines, premium cabin for ATA (Air Tran Airways) and free food and drink served on board Frontier Airlines, ATA and America West Airlines.
Given these two paragraphs a question was formed which I would like to have your opinion and answers. “How far would you go for a cheap ticket? Would you like a cheap no-frill fare to the likes of Ryanair as described on the first paragraph? or would you like to pay something more but get a value for money service (but not a rip-off service) to the likes of the second paragraph?
I am looking forward for your replies.
Kind Regards

For me it is if I’m going to get miles, and how many? Am I going to be able to upgrade, or no? More often than not, this requires playing a slightly higher fare. I don’t fly Southwest unless it will benefit my trip time-wise. I have never flown Jetblue.

I mostly fly flag carriers for shorter flights because these are affordable. I fly where we can afford to fly to, it also depends on the distance. 330 euros return ticket from brussels to jfk with klm is a very reasonable price. however 275 euros from brussels to moscow is rather expensive.

it all depends on how long my flight would be

For me its the destination. Im a spotter and want to fly somewhere with aircraft. If RYR suddenley started flying to FRA,CDG,AMS etc I would fly them, until then no.
EZY or Flybe are not low cost as in RYR. BA are cheaper if you want to fly Friday pm back Sunday PM. For a weekend in jersey in May its £165 on fly BE for a 45 min flight!!

If there was an option and money was no object then I would probably choose not to fly with the LCC, however saying that I have never travelled with a LCC and only go from what I hear on these forums and from what I see in the news!

for me its price! Ryanair are used a fair old bit now, but Jet2 (my local LBA) when conveniant, and a first hop on EZY have all been used. Also when i book for group trips i go mainly on price. All my crew are under 20 and if we go anywhere for 3 hours it’s only like going on the coach or bus – usually cheaper!
For example for me to get from my house to LBA via bus = approx £3.20, if 4 of us share a cab its about the same… I have personally never paid more than £3 for any Ryanair flight i have flown on (8 sectors)! The Jet2 ones were a bit more expansive at £1 and £9 to and fro AMS, and BCN was about £22 each way – all these plus tax. Currently looking at GVA with EZY at £12.99 out and £13.99 return – £46 incl taxes in total – but i need to do it in the next month before the end of the ski season!
I have booked a group recently of 13 people on bmibaby MAN-ORK in the height of summer for £60 return incl taxes – out end July, rtn early Aug, and have myself looked at Hapag Lloyd, Germanwings, FlyBe, SkyEurope, Snowflake, Iceland Express, Basiq and others whilst just looking on the net for trips – No.1 for me is price if its within Europe, then timing if for example its a feasable day trip or short break!

Cheap for me! aslong as it isn’t too bad but as Sam sais if you were travelling further afield then its a must to have a quality service.

so in conclusion, I’m not bothered about brands

good question.
I have never flown RyanAir, I have always flown easyJet.
For me price is a big influence, sometime easyJet is too expensive for me so I cash in air miles and fly BA just paying the tax.
Anything over about £25/30 and it’s too expensive for me.

Sam,
thanks for your reply. As I was a student myself (not long ago), i understand what it means to find a cheap ticket. However, considering you wanted to travel somewhere and you had two options either RyanAir or Easyjet.. would you go for the cheapest price available or choose the airline simply because of its brand?
Kind Regards

it would depend how far I’m travelling ,
If I was only going for an hour I’d go with Ryanair but anything over 3 hours or so I’d like to choose to go with the better company if I could afford it, but being a student I can’t, so just easyJet for Sam
