How Iron curtain , AMAP-ADS work

for some one dont know about it , here what it is

Most active protection either fire a small missile to intercept enemy project ( EX : Iron Fist ) , or using bullet to shot down enemy project ( CIWS ) or using shot gun like blast to shot down RPG ( Ex : Trophy )
but what does the IRON CURTAIN and AMAP-ADS use ? , Wiki say they use energy beam to intercept project , but that seem very fictional to me , what kind of energy beam are they talking about ???? laser ? ( obviously not ) , electric ? ( doesnt look like that ) is this some thing like Iron man stuff ?
