A small Spanish MLA airfield near Madrid has one of the strangest towers around today. The nose of a former Spanish, (but this one was made in Germany) 111 is in use for ATC duties. Due to large wasp nests in the nose, it was not in use while I was there.

RE: How is that for a tower!
Hi
Saw the spanish He111’s at Getafe airfield back in 1964 whilst ferrying a Havard MkIV to Alverca, Portugal.

Ja,
Have a look at www.axisaircraft.com , all the Spanish “survivors” are there. I think they were operational untill 1973/1974. I remember them flying, together with the Ju-52’s and DHC-4’s while on holiday at Gran Canaria. Unfortunatly, I was not taking photo’s in those days.

How many HE-111’s and dirivatives did Spain use in total and when were they retired? I’ve heard they were used right up untill the late 50’s /early 60’s. Also are there any still around these days?
Give me coffee and no-one gets hurt!
