No screen shot I’m afraid but on a DVD of Airwolf I got the other day they are flying her low and in one sequence hovering and maneuvering with the gear up and the centerline “weapon” just inches off the floor!

Does anybody knows the name of the song from that An-12 goodie?

good pics from Thumrait, spent some time there myself but wasnt a Thug-ite I was based up north in Seeb.
Ive one low level Hunter at Thumrait but dont know how to “post” it.

Maybe its a new cost cutting exercise.The bombs are dropped and the GI’s run out and catch them before they are damaged….I’l stand in the corner then:D

Skip-bombing? Did the USAAF ever do that?

Sounds feasable Kenb’o, I think another good point is would they drop bombs that low?, if they did then the AC would be at risk from the blast/shrapnel/debri unless at the point of release they pulled a gut wrenching climb out.

Hmmmm… looks like they could be practice bombs, my reasons for thinking this as follows.

1. would any one who is under attack from a low flying bomber be out in the open with a camera….? don’t think so…

2. the lowest bomb (i.e. the first one out) is not in the shadow of the AC, and although it’s B/W it seems to be painted a slightly lighter shade than the underside of the AC. were’nt the US 50pound practice bombs painted pale blue as opposed to the standard olive drab?

3.the bombs look slightly too long and thin to be standard 500 or even 250 bombs.

4. in a genuine attack the gunners would likely be shooting at anyone who sticks his head up!

anyone think the same….?

The Herks didn’t bother rising to follow contours & obstacles so much as they should have done, they just ploughed on regardless, but we tended to see them sooner, and they were a little slower….

I was lucky enough to be watching the wingtip and shadow race across the ground flying through the black mountains back in 1990 in a 234Sqn hawk.
As I looked forward around the hillside appeared a bloody herk head on and my height. He didnt look like he intended to move and it took us about 10g as quick as you like to head skywards in a big loop then dive down where we left off.

The bit slightly earlier where the ‘109’s have to pull up slightly to clear a hedge/fence as they bounce the airfield…now that’s low!
