I couldn’t find the blessed thing either when I searched for it – you may just have to do a blanket search of the whole forum for Wethersfield (note the spelling!)…

That “some nutter” you are talking about was Maj. José Marette flying the F-84 solo display. In those days this was normal and allowed so watch your language please.

Low Galaxy.

I am cheating a little here as this aircraft was taking off, but his gear was retracted. The shot was taken with a Minolta X 500, 200 mm lens, on a very foggy morning.

How about this one of Ray Hannah in ‘434’ in the early-mid 90s

This shot was taken from an old airfield close to my heart (Did first Solo there in 1983) and not that far from my Home Town for 17 years. A Belgium Air Force major in an F-84 at an Air show at Wethersfield in 1964. The only thing that PhotoShop was used for on this shot is to reduce the size of the scan from the modelling magazine I found it in. From the blur, I’d say he was moving pretty fast to boot. No idea of who’s photo it is.

Hells Bells, that is mental ! – mind you, so was Captain Hawke.

Must have been one of the ex- ‘Hanover Street’ Mitchells.

That pic is from a website about Duxford – well spotted 🙂

The P-47 isn’t 78th, but the tail of the P-51 on the right could be the black or red rudder of one of the 78th Squadrons; and yes, the background does look like Duxford.

The signals square in the foreground also ends in ‘X’ from the DX of Duxfords codes.

The inverted-low stuff is from the 1970s or 80s, I believe. It wasn’t forbidden then.

Entropy, Belgian Fougas are still the masters of LOW! The size and design of that plane really helps though. I wonder if anybody has photos of Fouga displays flown at similar height, but upside down? I’ve heard this so many times but never seen a pic of it.

As far as I know that never happened. Inverted, yes, but not so low. Lt. Col. Rorive does his best though to stay as low as possible after take-off 🙂 Unfortunatly, this is the last year we operate the Fouga. The new and final display schedule will be on my website as soon as I get clearence.
