For NickB – don’t suppose you could give us a canned version of the story?
That book seems to be quite unavailable 😡
Cheers,
Roy.

WV838 – you won’t be disappointed – its an excellent read and helps one to understand why there were so many accidents onboard in the 50’s & 60’s.

Thanks for that Nick – I’ll have to hunt a copy down.

This story is well documented in the excellent publication ‘Fly Navy – a view from the cockpit’.
The pilot is called Lt Maurice Tibby who survived as did all the ground crew although I believe an Engineering Officer was seriously injured but recovered.

No idea which ship this is, what happened, or if there were any fatalities.
These are just a few of the (many) Sea Hawk pics I’ve collected over the last few years.
The tail letter ‘C’ denotes Bulwark iirc.

What was the series of events that caused it? Must have been going at a reasonable speed with the wings semi-folded for that to happen?

Yes, I’ve seen them printed elsewhere too – I wonder where the set came from?
Is it just me, or the angle, or is someone actually hanging off the nose of ‘150 as it goes over the edge in piccy number 3? Hope they were fished out…

I’ve seen this series before, though I’ve not the details to hand. I have a feeling it ocurred on Bulwark, though I’m open to correction!

Blimey.
Was everyone OK? There seem to be a few people lying on the deck even after the incident has concluded.
Mind you I couldn’t help but smile at the guy who obviously catches on to what’s going on and starts pelting up the flight deck – then realises the world hasn’t ended and turns round to sprint the other way!
Looks like 145 lost its tail as well, and another aircraft got a damaged rudder. Scary stuff.

Yes, there is a splash on the right, but it looks like 150 left it’s tailplane on deck (leaning against the intake of the one on the left facing the camera..

Looks like tail code 150 and at least one of the deck crew over board to me.
It seems to me as though 150’s RR Nene had a jammed throttle judging by the tyre smoke.
