More common than you think, seen a couple of cars leave their axles on the start line.

I blame the silly American ” Long Shorts ” syndrome ——Can someone tell me why American men of all ages , think that 2 ladies skirts on their legs , looks good . Their welding was probably as good as their dress sense!!

Hehe! Never ceases to amaze me just how stupid some people can be!
It would have been easier and safer to weld a length of angle to the roof bar and rest the bottles on that to stop ’em slipping – what a wally!

Reminds me of a darwin award I heard of;

‘ A homeowner was doing some welding on the roof of his house at Port Macquarie in New South Wales. He had problems with his oxyacetylene tanks slipping, so he decided to tack weld them to the roofing iron. That was the last thing he ever did. When I passed the house the next day, there wasn’t much left of the roof on that side of the house.’

Without knowing the engine specs it’s easy to scoff, I’d wager that engine running nigh on 800bhp, the cams are so aggressive that it can barely idle…

That said – I wonder if they used JB weld :diablo:

What were the flashes of light under the car at the moment of failure?

Could it have been a differential failure; seizing-up and causing the momentum of the wheels and tyres to cause the welds to fail, plus causing the driveshaft to fail?

Anybody else notice the driver had artificial legs?

Those brackets you see under the car were *welded* to the axle housing. At least 4 different welds completely failed.

I would have thought that was the result of way too much torque effect than bad welding….. ripping bolted on parts out is quite easy compared to ripping welded metal :diablo:
