With the war in Iraq approaching, and both France, Germany, Russia and China saying they will not support a military operation under a UN-flag, I am beginning to ask serieus questions, not just about the consequences for Iraq (they are obvious, being bombed once again), but for the rest of the world.
AFAIK, there has never been such a crisis in the history of the United States, where the majority of its allies outspoke against them. (Not including the civil war where the European gov`ts supported the Confederation, but the public was in favour of the union). It`s not just about this single war, but about the future of diplomacy. Since the end WWII, it hasn`t happened a single time that Germany had so much criticism on US politics. Same for France, though they approach things in a more smooth way. A common EU-position on the war is impossible, but the people seem to agree in many ways, both on the isles and the continent.
Intellectuals these days like to refer to a Clash of Civilizations. But if the United States continue like this, there will be no clash between civilizations, there will be just a clash between the US and the Rest of the World.
Whereas a couple of months ago, most people still thought of Bush as a cowboy who can fill cartoonmagazines, now everyone seems to get frightened of him.
Any comments?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-01-03 AT 01:15 PM (GMT)]what r u on abt scooter? does winning a war automatically make u right?
and rabie,
war is only enevatable cos tony and bush made it so. and if the bbc is to be beleived, abt 80% of ppl in britain would not support war on iraq without UN mandate to back it, around 50% wont support war even if there is a UN mandate. but we’re still going to war either way. says alot abt ‘democracy’ doesnt it.

RE: How serious is the crisis?
Many of the same arguements were made before the first Gulf War and last years War in Afghanistan. Yet, history has proved the critics wrong! Time will tell…….

RE: How serious is the crisis?
A simulation of Gulf War II. Comical, but not at all funny.
