How to anger Great Britain, Hollywood style!

How an American single-handedly won the Battle of Britain. Oh wait, didn’t Ben Affleck single-handedly defeat Bosche, then go on to single-handedly defeat the Japanese at Pearl Harbor?

A few weeks ago there was a programe on TV telling the exploits of a certain Major Robert Cain at Arnhem………..I wonder what Hollywood would’ve made of him.
No doubt a few of you watched it, so who d’ya think they’d choose to play the galloping Major?

Let me think here…The Americans had to take the 2 toughest beaches in the invasion, the French just walked right on with minimal opposition, the Brits & the Canuks had it harder than the French, hell the rest of the nations had it harder, we went in to save their arses, therefore shouldn’t they have taked the tougher Beaches? But us Yankees took them to prove a point that we are not weak. The French don’t like us Yankees, but if it wasn’t for the Allies in WWI & WWII the French would be speaking German & eating Bratwurst & Sauerkraut, not escargo or crepes. I’m done with the soap box, time to totally change the subject here. Do you think the movie ‘The Longest Day’ is biased? I don’t. It depicts all sides, from the Germans, to the Maquis, the Americans, Brits, who ever else was involved.

As its near the 60th anniversary of D-Day, take a look at this SITE.
Something the Americans and Brits did together (with Canadians, Poles, Free French, Aussies and other nationalities,) but still Hollywood makes biased films about the event!!http://www.mysmilie.de/smilies/big/img/019.gif

Hmm. You are right – but you obviously didn’t see the one I had (and the variations of it) previously.
Ask anyone – they’ll tell you…;)

Hey – put a pic on by all means, just we would rather it wasn’t bigger than the rest of your post!

I like my new signature better. Interesting that your signature is larger than your previous post 🙂 .

Escuincle,
could you please put something smaller-sized in your signature? We all love Admiral Akbar, but that’s just a bit too much.

i was not aware that a pic 300 pixels in height would offend anyone, please accept my apologies, the signature has been modified.

We have long battled the cabin cruisers, who all insist on noting each and every flight they have been on, and their favourite airliners, and their own web pages with more bliddy flying buses on… Do we have to start again?

According to Francis K. Mason’s book ‘Battle Over Britain’, Plt. Off. W.M.L. Fiske, 601 Sqn., shot down one Ju.88 on 13.8.40, and he died of wounds on 17.8.40.

If you are referring to Billy Fiske, Nermal, he married a British countess. Here is a quote from my post on 12 April: “The Billy Fiske article was in AM February 2004 issue, page 20, and there is mention of the forthcoming Paramount Pictures film project, to be called “The Few”, starring Tom Cruise (who else!).
He seems to have claimed several probables and damaged, but according to the article no clearly recorded and definite shoot-downs. He was nevertheless one of “the few”.”

I saw the movie Battle of Britain (1969) a few days ago, i was upset because I noticed all 12 mistakes in the film, it was not 100% historically accurate 🙂

Well, considering somebody actually spent money for me to fall asleep during Dances with Wolves (don’t know if i had a nap in a cinema or in front of a TV&video-combo), it might be a success.

On the other hand, it seems that the people who managed to stay awake AND maintained their attention during Dances with Wolves did spot the occasional mistake. I don’t know when the first nuclear reactors were built in the US though: In one of many ‘show the majestic view as they ride’ scenes, you can see the cooling tower of a nuclear reactor.
