How to paint a jumbo in just over 3 minutes

Stumbled across this, interesting if a little short on quality.

Cool.

So is this the fate of the entire NWA fleet then?

I just flew on a Northwest flight last week..I suppose it will be a Delta plane next time!

When I make future bookings on KLM website, will it show as a Delta flight or Northwest?

No, they don’t.

Look carefully. They spray on a type of paint thinner/acid/corrosive to eat the old paint off and leave it on overnight. Then they wash it down which takes the paint with it. Then they put on a primer.

It’s the first thing you see them doing after the initial masking to protect the composite panels and wings, engines and under carriage.

Thanks for your expertise Sandy .

Well , It makes me sick to see one of the best c/s replaced with that …thing.

Another surprise is to notice that they just paint over the old painting. I think that it would be more “weight efficient” if the old paint was removed… maybe I’m wrong?

That’s what I would have though too. Essentially, there will be two layers of paint on there now. Unless the white overcoat is some new-tech ultra light stuff, but still.

….missed a bit.

Amazing, the amount of over-spray.
