How wide is a pilot's seat?

We are currently reconstructing the tubular framework of an He 51 fuselage. The pilot’s seat was attached to this framework at two places behind the cockpit. To determine where these brackets are to be mounted we have built a mock-up pilot’s seat which is 48 cm wide. We have a crude sketch of the side of this seat in a Heinkel handbook and used it to rebuild the side-pieces. I have sat in the seat and there is not much room to move, so I guess we are on the right track.
How wide is the seat of a Spitfire or Hurricane (or any other) for example?

Thanks
Peter

Well, no, not exactly – I’m in Germany but thanks all the same.
I’ve reduced the width of my plywood seat down to 44 cm. We’ll attach the mounting brackets to the fuselage frame using this width as a guide.

as wide as the pilot’s bottom??!!:)

seriously, Ill just go and measure them….The thing to bear in mind is that once the chute is in the seat pan, one’s botty sits on the top so ones botty does not have to fit between the sides of the seat
