RE: Thanks Kev!

A few yanks, concidering it was a yank film, but the best was Tom Sizemore. He is so cool, he was really good in Flight of the Intruder as Boxman!

RE: Thanks Kev!

Were there any Americans in BHD?

Two of the guys were in trainspotting, one was Ewan Mcgregor but I believe they were both Scots. And the guy who had the cast on his arm was Matthew Marsden who comes from my area and was in Coronation Street!

Thanks Kev!

I appreciate the thoughts and prayers!

Did you know that the guy that played Hooch in BHD is an Aussie?
Eric Banna, he’s actually a comedian who has gone big time now and is doing really good! Not bad for a guy from the rough end of Melbourne, born to Greek parents!
One of his comedy charicters is now a ledgend in Aussie homes, Pwioter!

RE: ANZAC DAY and Aussies!

Thanks Ja.

I have seen Black Hawk Down. I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. It has been slagged off over various points of accuracy, but look at the characterisation. They were a bunch of guys who truly believed they were invincible and found they were not. As in all military actions when it comes down to it, you’re not fighting for any high ideal but for each other! There can be no closer bond than that between people who are willing to lay down their lives for each other.

The loss of your friend was indeed a tragedy but your life was obviously enriched by knowing P.O. Smith. He and you will be in my thoughts tonight.

RE: ANZAC DAY and Aussies!

Thanks Kev, since I was a kid, it has been my ambission to serve, in honour of my family who served! I did, eventually!

I knew the sacrifices and learnd the lessons early on! For me it was a way of life! Unfortunately my brother and sister couldn’t understand! My daughters do understand, I made sure of that!

I look forward to seeing your pics, they will mean alot to me!

I have lost a friend in the line of duty, a few years ago there was a fire on HMAS Westralia, P.O. Shaun Smith “Smoo”, we played Hockey for the RAN together and it still hurts today! He saved one person and went back to look for others and that’s when the engines blew! I couldn’t go to his funeral, cause I was still in training and they refused to let me go! But I did form part of the Honour guard at the AB’s funeral! That was really hard, especially seeing his kid crying for his Daddy :.( Sorry

Go and see “Blackhawk Down”, you won’t be disappointed!

RE: ANZAC DAY and Aussies!

Thanks Ja,

I’m in England and the Commonwealth cemetery I mentioned is at Cannock Chase, in the Midlands. I live about 10 miles away and often go there, either for inspiration for my writing or when I’m feeling down. Walking among the gravestones soon returns your sense of perspective. I find it an intensely moving place.

Incidentally, right alongside the Commonwealth cemetery is the Deutsche Soldatenfriedhof, or German military cemetery. Following the Second World War, all German burials in the UK were moved to a central location. Cannock Chase was chosen as it is a forest apparently reminiscent of those found in Bavaria. There are many Battle of Britain graves there. The German cemetery is also a very moving place and I rarely visit one without the other. If I do go on ANZAC day (health permitting) I’ll take some photos and post them for you. You’ve probably guessed by now I’m very interested in the emotional aspect of confrontation and the different ways in which events are commemorated. For me, the sacrifice of others throughout the generations has shaped the world and the society I’m now priveleged to live in. For that, I will be eternally grateful and in my own small way try to ensure that I live a life worthy of their sacrifice and that, by me at least, they will always be remembered.

Whew! Can someone help me off my soapbox?

Good luck with your project, I sincerely hope things go well for you and look forward to hearing great things of STS in the future.

ANZAC DAY and Aussies!

Actually Kev, I’m very proud of my German heritage!, But I guess I am proud of who I am! I tell my daughters, never forget your family history- their mother is of Italian descent and hates everything I do!

I appreciate your idea, but naming a plane “##### Smith” doesn’t really appeal to me, Aussies will know what I’m talking about! But that’s something to think about!

ANZAC Day is the 25th of April, and I’m honourd by your thoughts!
Which country are you in?

RE: My Colours!

Well, they certainly look smart.

You’re obviously very proud of who you are and of being an Australian so how about naming each aircraft after Australians who have had a significant impact on aviation? This could either be as pioneers, record breakers or people who flew with the Armed Services. As your fleet expands you could include Australians who have influenced Australian culture generally.

I hope you don’t mind if I go off topic now, but can you tell me when ANZAC day is? I live not fear from a Commonwealth war cemetery where a number of New Zealanders are buried. They were apparently in their final stages of training when they died in the influenza epidemic soon after the end of the Great War.I know they have a memorial service and I would like to attend.

RE: My Colours!

Close Kev, it stands for “Smart Transit System”, basically a smart idea from a smart guy, as opposed to the dumb transit system that is currently in place! Private bus companies that the drivers make the times if and when the bus will arrive.

Trains that keep getting cancelled cause the driver spilt his coffee!

And a ferry service that is there when the other left cause they sold the business after making it so well known!

The Airline is just the first step in what I hope to build up to become a reputable “reliable” service!

As for naming the Aircraft, How about Thunderbird 1? hahahahahaha!

Actually, I love the Space Shuttles, STS is just a play on that as well… each shuttle mission is designated STS-xxx, thus I used the same idea, but avoided legal troubles by changing it’s meaning as well! So maybe I could name the planes after each Pilot of the Shuttle missions? What do you think?

RE: My Colours!

Ja,

very nice! The minimalist approach on the smaller a/c works well, as does the scheme for the larger a/c. I also like the idea of naming the a/c as well as giving them an individual fleet identity No. Can you tell us what the STS stands for? I presume it’s something transport services?

Looking good Ja. I’d certainly know who the C212 belonged to if I saw it!

My Colours!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-03-02 AT 05:59 AM (GMT)]Kev: Haven’t decided fully but the GA-8 Airvan is looking good, just looking into the AOC and RPT certs now, should this fall through, it will be the PAC-750XT from New Zealand, to start off with which is the first pic! As for the bigger stuff, still evaluating candidates, I finaly found the email address for Antanov, and they have welcomed my inquiry, can’t wait to see what they send me on the An-38-100!

I’ve had a poor responce from EADS regarding the CASA 212 Aviocar, which is the second pic! The number on the tail will be relivant to each aircraft, sorta like the Thunderbirds. I feel that this is a good visual aid for people to take important photos, and in the event that it ever happens, identify which a/c has gone down (Grim but realistic). I’m really tempted to go for the SU-80, but the AN-38 holds a soft spot in my mind, so I’ll wait to see what they send me!

I can do it, but I need your support!

Ja,

So the Green Yak with the red stars wasn’t one of yours?

I’d be very interested to see your ideas and know whether you’ve settled on an a/c type yet.
