Can anyone help? I am looking for any documentation photos drawings etc on the Hampden. I am hoping to build a 1/6 scale model with two 5 cylinder radials 144″ wingspan for the world scale masters.
I have tried the Imperial War Museum, canadian flight museum, many other governing bodies but everything is limited.
Any help would be greatly received.
Thank you

Well we have decided that after the WC’s we are going to take it on the road, no point spending all that time then not using it heh. Starting with the following competitions and shows
British Nationals
Top Gun Florida
Canadian Nationals
Las Vegas Scale Champs
Toledo Model Expo
Then off to donate to a museum,, we would like to see it next to the fully restored one (It’s big brother)

Thought about the Zenoah but would not sound right as two Radials will have more of authentic sound. It,s the price you pay for realism…

This won’t help, but Derek Robinson’s book “Damned Good Show” features Hampden crews throughout it, written in his usual excellent style. It’s lovely to see the earlier period of Bomber Command represented, great read! Especially the bit about stabilised yaw…..some good research there.

sounds good 🙂 i look forward to seeing it, though i cant help thinking that you could save a lot of money by using a zeonah G45 or G62, even the 62 is half the price of the radial, and would do the same job.
just my penny’s worth
cant wait to see it 🙂

HP Hampden
Hi Folks,
Sorry for the delay in all of your replys and help i have been away in Canada sorting out details regarding the world championships.
I have been collecting some superb info on the hampden.
We have decidied on the Saito 5cylinder Radials for the model.
Priliminary drawings are underway. HOWEVER
There is always a HOWEVER, I am looking for detailed drawings of the undercarriage and cockpit and any other interior parts. i.e. whatever may be under access panels etc.
And if anyone has any ideas of other detail work that would add to the finished model please feel to throw ideas at me. I am surprised at the responces i have had with this model and i am really looking forward to its completion.
We have also decided that after the world championships we hope to display at several model shows and then to donate to a museum for people to enjoy
Regards

Hello, I’m wondering if anyone can give me info on a related Hampden subject.
I am currently building the 1/72 Airfix model, with the aid of etched parts to enhance it, and a set of new Falcon canopies.
However, the area I am really struggling to put detail in is the ventral position. I believe this could have 1 or 2 guns, but I am not sure of the actual mounting position etc.
eg did the ventral canopy open up like the dorsal one, or did the guns just poke through the canopy like the nose gun ? If so, which bit of the canopy ?(the airfix canopy is so vaguely shaped that I am sure I can’t rely on it !)
If anyone has any photos or drawings of this position I’d be extremely grateful for sight of them, or an emailed copy. I know I could go and buy some of the out-of-print books, but it seems a lot of expenditure for just one piece of info.
Thanks in advance for any help !
PS I’m new here so go gently on me 😮

I saw the pages from the parts manual but they were extremely faint
and I couldn’t quite make out wat was shown.

I ran the scans you uploaded through a photo program and they darkened up a little bit to make it easier to read.

Very nice John
It’s moved on a lot from the last pictures I saw of it. Do you have any pictures of the Hampden DF loop scale mounting? I think I might have one.
Keep up the good work
Thanks for your comments, Ive attached three scans from the Hampden spare parts manual, they are not too clear but they are on micro fiche so dont copy too well , if you recognise any bits you have please let me know.

you have probably seen these already but just did a quick serch of the Flight Global archive and found lots of info but included this http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1942/1942%20-%201243.html?search=Hampden

Wow, thanks John,
The project has made some great progress. Some of the Halifax drawings have prefix 52 (Hampden) numbers such as the control column top and the rudder pedals. Keep up the excellent work.
If there’s a wantslist of things you still need, post it here and perhaps we can help. Several projects have already benefitted from a similar action.
I will be more than happy to help with the search for parts.
Cheers
