Anyone know what the plans are for the HP Herald G-CEXP cn195 located at Gatwick Airport. I have seen that it was moved recently for the observation area. Repaint or scrapman perhaps??

The Herald has much activity around it today with recovery bags inflated under its wings and various bits of rescue/recovery equipment around it

British Aviation History
Another small piece of British Aviation History about to fall to the scrap man by the look of the poor thing.
It always has to be private enterprise to take on tasks to keep British Aviation still in the public eye where is the British Government in all of this they just do not care about British Aviation History by the look of things

Does anyone know what plans,if any, there are for Gatwick’s Comet 4B G-APMB?Is she still used for ground handling practice? Some recent pics on A.net show her looking a bit shabby.

The Herald IS destined for Gatwick Aviation Museum.
She will be “lifted” over the fence shortly.
At least that was the last plan!

Yeah it will give us something interesting to look at when they make the inevitable ‘Gatwick Airport’ fly on the wall documentary!

Cheers David, for that. 🙂
I dont mean this to sound horrible, but it does make for more space for spotting up on the roof.

I guess at least she will be earning her kept while
performing Airport duties..and it will stop the birds
for trying to nest!
🙂

I don’t think that fate is on the cards .

Airport duties..does that mean that she will have her wings
shortened just like the DH Comet has? a sad sight indeed to this
old Comet fan??

She was lifted off the roof on wednesday night by a team from Skysport Engineering onto the apron. She will sit for a week or two on the apron before being moved across the airfield.
She is going to be used for airport duties i.e towing practice
and airbridge training. She isn’t going to be scrapped – she cost them far too much for that!

I hope LGW Museum do take it on. Just another aircraft gone to waste otherwise.
I’ll find out, watch this space. 🙂

Gatwick Herald G-CEXP
I had heard that it was going to have to move shortly. I don’t know the reason for it but I had heard that the Gatwick Aviation Museum at Charlwood might be in negotiation for it.
Any more news anybody
