Temporally camera-less after the last show at Duxford (_that_ shower on Saturday is going to prove expensive, water and D-SLRs do not mix!), I’ve been looking through some of my old prints.
Since these were taken 10 years ago to the day (17th September 1993), I thought it would be a good time to post them. They were taken whilst watching the arrivals at RAF Finningley, would that have been their last Battle of Britain at home day?

What nostalgia! Brings back memories of ground running victors at 0200hrs. Hated having to jack them 3′ in the air to fit Blue Steel though. It was all man power in those days. I think XL231 is the only aircraft still around that I actually worked on.
Pleasekeep the pictures coming.

Witnessed HP Victor Crash
Iforget the year it was either 86/87 i ‘m not sure which but i was at the time a member of the Canadian Warplane Heritage and i was at the museum preping the Avenger for our annual airshow when we informed that the Victor tanker we were expecting was on final approach so all us aircraft nuts went out to see it come in problem was as she came in she caught a crosswind and skidded of the runway her undercarriage pierced the port wing not sure about the starboard i have pics somewhere when i find them i’ll post them couldnt get close enough to get code form fuselage although after they chopped her up we did get to keep the nose section for a while and somewhere i still have the ejection seat lever/handle or so i was told all i know for sure is that it came from inside the cockpit it’s a “T” handle with black and yellow stripes with a cable attached to it

XH672 flashback!
Here is a shot I took of XH672 refuelling a 12 Squadron Tornado during it’s press farewell photocall in September 1993. Shot was taken from an open para door on a Hercules.

There was a report of work being carried out on 648, has anyone who has been recently got an update?
Yep work was also going on when I visited on the 1st of this month, also the Lincoln and Vulcan seemed to be having work done on them 🙂

looking at all these pictures made me think – blimey we used to have an interesting air force!
or do I mean “we used to have an air force?” 😀
phantoms, buccs, lightnings I miss you!
I’ve got a nice big bit of Victor XL511’s Pressurisation + anti icing instrument panel at home – found out it’s a falklands vet too – must find a good home for it one day – what do we reckon its worth?
Hi Zwitter,
Not to sure if you got my PM but I may be interested in buying your panel if you wanted to sell it. I am currently building the left Pilots panel of a HP Victor and your panel may compliment it. Please PM me if you have any further details. (This is where we need a Wants and Sale Forum!) Thanks Fly.Buy

XH650 looks better than Duxfords example.
Yeah, to show the difference, here’s a shot of XH648 not long after she’d arrived at Duxford. It least it’s planned to get her under cover once the Airspace Super Hangar has been finished. With Cosford’s going under cover it’s good news for the Victor population – when will someone put a Britannia under cover!!!

Never expected to see this thread resurrected! XH672 certainly looks good, must try and get along this year to have a look before she disappears inside the new cold war building.

Here’s 2 for you, as you can see XH672 is looking pretty good now that Cosford have finished the repaint (taken December 2004) and a sad shot of poor old XH650 on the Manston Fire Ground 1978.
