HRL article in today's Independent

Did anyone else see the article today on HAwker Restorations in today’s Independant . The next flyer is in around 7 months and the German factory that made the tubes is no more so future restorations are limited to what stock is left.

If we all read our Flypast dated August 2011 (remember our sponsors!) we would have know all this information then! 😉

..the German factory that made the tubes is no more so future restorations are limited to what stock is left.

That sounds like a journalist failing to understand what was said

The German ‘factory’ that made the steel is called ThyssenKrupp AG, aka Krupps (what irony) and as far as I know is still going despite the best efforts of Bomber Command

The (IIRC) British factory that rolled the tubes is no more and the stock has been limited since the first (and I think only) batch was bought many years back.

I’ve got one sitting in the garage, can’t decide if I should trade it for a tractor or a trailer tho…

Sell it and buy a trailer, sell both wheels off that, then buy another tractor and trailer, then….it’ll work, I know it will! 🙂

Crikey, they must have been made of gold!

No wheels, no matter how rare would fund a new tractor and trailer…..

I knew a farmer in Northumberland who had 2 spitfire wheels on his farm cart. Came from an old 2nd world war airfield .They were pointed out by a spitfire enthusiast who happened to see the farmer and cart one day.

The wheels when sold raised enough in themselves to purchase a brand new tractor and trailer.

Just shows how expensive these things are.
