Hi All,
I noticed that one of the 748`s at Southend has been moved to the dreaded scrap mans area, and i am sure its days are numbered.
Southend is currently blessed with around 5 of the type at the moment, with a couple operated by Janes, but i got me thinking that i as far as i can remember the type is not preserved anywhere in the UK.
It would be a shame if what examples are left, are all scrapped over the next couple of years, and another UK buil airliner is not preserved.

I photographed 3C-QQP in 2004 in the museum compound at Bankstown (Oz). What happened to that?

The RNZAF Andover is opened occasionally for guided tours, one of which I got from the very good museum volunteers.
I visited the RNZAF museum in December 2007, managed to get a look inside where I took these pictures.
Hope they are of interest.
Cheers, Steve

I had heard that they had started operating again with 748s, hence my amazement at apparent lack of them in UK.
I’m assuming here that we are talking about pure 748s and not Andovers.
Started up and wound down again due to lack of business. The planes they had (G-AYIM and G-OSOE) are either parked up back at Blackpool again or have been moved on.

The RAAF Museum’s example is kept outside at Point Cook, Victoria (too big to go in a Bellman hangar) but has been professionally cocooned for protection.

I think it was disgraceful that G-ARAY was scrapped and that none of the Queens Flight Andover CC2s got preserved. One got converted and used by DERA for trials, then scrapped and the others ended up in Africa.
Cockpit/nose is preserved in Boscombe Down Aviation Collection….nice nose too! We had hoped it would be cut off to include the Royal Khazi!!!
