Please. Do any forumites have detailed pictures of Ford Hucks starters. I am particularly interested in the suspension, radius rods and transmission and any details of the Hucks power take off and where the prop drive chain goes to through the floor. The more detailed the better.

John

Brian, thank you very much indeed, these pics really do cross the “T”s and dot the eyes.
I now have all the information I require to do a 1:48 kit of the generic Hucks Starter as each surviving type is slightly different. I’ve spent all afternoon making a set of leaf springs for the suspension and some of the chassis based on Ford info I already have.
Thanks again and also to Ollie.
Regards
John
My pleasure John, i will definatly be after one of those kits when you release it.

HAC Hucks 02Oct10
The HAC Hucks has a chain guard. The light on top rotates.

The best underside shot I could get looking aft. You can just make out a couple of links from the chain.

I remember seeing photos of a complete Hucks Starter chassis in a scrapyard near Taunton in c.1990. It was on top of another derelict vehicle. I have no idea what happened to it.
The scrapyard is easy to find, it’s on the west side of the M5, just where the Glastonbury road crosses the motorway. I once tried to have a look but was thwarted by a monstrous and unfriendly looking dog!

Ollie
That would be fantastic. The only details I am short of are the bottom of the chain drive/ floor where the chain goes through and the dashboard/controls.
Cheers
John

Thank you Brian. Your photos prove the use of the 1 Ton rear axle. Now the only thing I have to find out is the chain to gearbox/ or floor arrangment.

The best I’ve got I’m afraid John. Not planning another visit to Hendon until the end of the year. There is a Hucks at Duxford, but usually parked behind the Nimrod so not easy to photograph but I’ll have a look this weekend. The other is at Shuttleworth, but looking at the weather forecast for Sunday, I may not be venturing out.
