Hudson Losses from RAF Thornaby

Does anyone out there have any information regarding the losses of the following two Hudson aircraft, operated by 6 OTU at Thornaby, please?

N7206 1 May 1942
T9274 6 May 1942

I have the basis information from the Air Britain serials books, but if anybody can add anything, especially crew names, I would be very grateful.

Just had a further look through. There’s nothing on those two a/c as far as I can see, but there is a group photo taken in December ’41 with all the people named, as well as a couple of other items.

The RAFM has the Hudson record cards, and would be worth a visit, as would the National Archives for 6 OTU’s ORB; you might find dead crew names listed at the end of the month summary, or you might not find anything, but it’s worth a try!

Geoffrey Jones’ ‘Attacker, the Hudson & it’s flyers’, Wm Kimber, does not seem to have anything on 6 OTU.

PM me for more.

Should’ve thought of the Lockheed Twins myself – well done Paul M.

Andrew Hendrie’s ‘Lockheed Hudson in World War II’ Airlife has:

N7206 – AAEE / 1 OTU / 6 OTU Crashed Gainsford, Co. Durham 1.5.42

It’s also the ‘second’ RAF Hudson, the only prior serialled one being N7205.

T9274 – 206 / 220 / 6 OTU Ditched with engine fire 14m NE of Hartlepool, Co. Durham 6.5.42

Not a lot there, that’s not been covered already, but it at least cross-checks.

Interestingly, Hendrie served at Thornaby with 6 OTU himself, and tells a story of at least one unspecified accident in the book, and there’s 6 refs to 6 OTU in the book, so it’s worth seeking out.

I’ll dig out my Hudson refs, but I’m not optimistic there’ll be much.
