Huey Open day at Wesham near Preston Lancs.

Greetings all,

Just to say that Im aware of a Huey Open day on SATURDAY 01st Dec at Huey Base up at Wesham near Preston, Lancashire for anyone who may be interested in getting up close to the Huey and their OH-6A ‘Loach’.

Huey Base is an embrionic Museum facility looking to have future open/event days all pertaining to Vietnam.

Did you know that No 2 Sqn Royal Australian Air Force flew over 11,400 combat missions in Vietnam flying Canberras?… sadly with the loss of 2 aircraft and crews!

Huey Base is expanding and is dedication to all nationalities that served there be they from either side.

These are all the nations reported to have been involved in the entire war in Vietnam (19 December 1946 – 1 August 1954, French Indo-China War to 1 November 1955 – 30 April 1975, official US involvement):

•France
•Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam)
•Republic of Vietnam (1950 “State of Vietnam, AKA South Vietnam)
•United States
•South Korea
•Soviet union
•The UK
•People’s Republic of China (mainland China)
•Republic of China (Taiwan – Cargo transport support)
•Australia
•New Zealand
•Philippines
•North Korea (200 pilot to two fighter squadrons that defended Hanoi)
•Cuba (anecdotal, as reported by Sen. John McCain and other POW’s)
•Canada (Noncombatant, support roles)
•Poland (Noncombatant, support roles)
•India (Noncombatant, support roles)
•Laos (Pathet Lao)
•Cambodia (Khmer Republic and the Khmer Rouge)
•Thailand

Supporting South Vietnam were members of SEATO – United States, Australia, New Zealand, Phillipines, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Khmer Republic (later overthrown by the Khmer Rouge), Kingdom of Laos, and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Supporting the North Vietnamese to varying degrees of involvement were the Khmer Rouge (Cambodian Communist insurgents), Pathet Lao (Laotian Communist insurgents), Peoples Republic of China, and the Soviet Union.

So there you have it! Do phone up and book a ticket if youd like to get up close and personal to these 2 iconic Vietnam warbirds.

There is a Huey Cobra on the horizon to join the flying fleet for the forthcomming Air Show season!…watch this space.

Fly Safe…..

That is superb news. I was looking at photos of a Cobra flying in the Czech Republic and was surprised by how small they look!

Obviously cost is a huge factor, but I’d love to see the Huey, Loach and now Cobra down in the South of England a few more times in 2013 🙂
