This forum negletes the human factor in alot of posts. Any weapon system will not work right if people are not trained properly, sufficiant flying hours are negleted, skilled personnel aren’t available, or if funding and spares were never figured out correctly.
I have observed the USAF first hand for many years. Its a heck of a powerful force. All the fancy equipment that it uses doesn’t mean much if the human element isn’t taken care of. Consider the following:
Software/Computer specialists are in short supply;
The people that update avionics software and other like technicians can get paid 3 or 4 times on the outside.
Skilled Pilots/Maintenance personnel: I have seen alot of them get out after being deployed too many times especially on deployments that appear to be a waste of time. The nickname for the last big deployment was Operation “Denied Christmas”.
If you don’t spend enough on flying hours, it doesn’t matter what new-tech aircraft you fly.
All of these factors apply to alot of airforces. That’s why it bugs me a little bit to see a new Buck Rogers aircraft mentioned in some kind of what if or problem solving question and the spec sheet seems to be the only thing mentioned. Lacking are the political attitudes, (airpower being controlled by political policy), funding and it’s effects, personnel training etc. And after all that, an air force can be brought up to an excellent level and still human error can kick in at anytime.
There have been good posts. But there is too much spec sheet retoric.
