Can anybody confirm whether the massive flypast over Lincolnshire of 16 Spitfires is still going ahead. Reports earlier in the year suggested that these were flying into Humberside Airport on August 12th in readiness for a tour of Lincolnshire the following day. There seems to have been no confirmation one way or another recently

But did any Hurricanes take part? It would be a bit off if it was only Spitfires.
It’s the self-fulfilling media icon-cycle.
1 ‘OK chaps, article about Battle of Britain’
2 ‘People associate the Spitfire with winning WW2’
3 ‘Best use a photo of a Spitfire and call it the war-winner, then…’
4 GOTO 2

Thanks Woodbridge 10, I was on the flightpath for the group of five but was unable to identify them other than two clipped wing variants

Due to work I couldn’t get to any of the venues, which were close to me. But did any Hurricanes take part? It would be a bit off if it was only Spitfires. I did see a news paper article promoting the the event showing a photo of two a/c, “Spitfires like this etc etc” Only one was a Spitfire the other was a Hurricane. Hmm.

Five Spitfires have just overflown us here in Grantham heading towards Newark. I chose to view them from the front of the house and they flew over further south, so I would have had a better view from our back garden! However, I still managed to see them. Weather has been dull here most of the day and the cloud base looked around 1000′ and lower in places judging from viewing a Beechcraft King Air from RAFC Cranwell which had flown over around 10 mins earlier. A pity the weather hadn’t been as good as yesterday but at least we got our fix here today! Thanks folks.
