The few times I have flown no-frills, usually when I have no choice, like when BD switched all their ex EMA routes to Baby, I have found that you are lucky to be even able to buy a sandwich because by the time the 3 cabin staff these flights carry get to your seat row, they have often sold out.
It is degrading having to pray that they have a curly sandwich left for you. How I long for the hot breakfasts airlines used to serve, even on short sectors.

When I said one of your flights, I meant the airline, not wysiwyg. Sorry, that didn’t read very clearly. As I am flying on a B744 (I believe), I don’t think I’ll have wysiwyg taking me to SFO. 🙁

Have a good trip! Never been to the USAmyself but will do one day. It must be strange having a flight with a pilot flying who’s on this forum!! wow.

Things are going fine, Duess. Best bit is that I now get Upper Class food as standard. I got my uniform trousers 2″ too big in anticipation (and I’m not joking!).
He he – glad to hear it. Sounds like a fun airline to work for as well as to fly with as a passenger. I have the absolute pleasure of being a passenger on board your SFO flight next Thursday. I booked Virgin specifically as they served me well when I flew to EWR a few years ago. I simply cannot wait to fly with them again. The only downer is that I turn 30 during my trip, but the trip was actually booked to help ‘celebrate’ this milestone. I hope you continue to enjoy it all at Virgin. They would be top of my list of airlines to work for.

danairboy, I like to think that we are all friends on here even if we sit at opposite ends of the debate, as Bmused and I do much of the time, but it would be a much duller forum without either of you on it!
As for LoCos….enjoy them while ye may!
*Bows*
Why thank you sir

What a succinct reply. I agree with most of that InterflugIl62. Nice to feel that at least one of the members of this forum hates no-frills as much as I do. I like my FOOD!
If you like your food that much, fly a full service airline.
I do not see the point in getting as meal when the flight is ony 45 minutes long (The average lo-co flight) and having to pay upt to 25% more for the priveledge.
Roll on the Lo-Cos!

I’ve PM’d Danairboy about “rule 11”.
By: wysiwyg - 18th August 2004 at 00:15
Well that’s fine…just make sure that you don’t come accross as too antagonistic and fall foul of rule 11 of the sticky.

Sorry for going off-topic here, but have you already started flying with Virgin, Wysiwyg? How’s it all progressing for you?
By: danairboy - 18th August 2004 at 00:03
Im no konw-all, in fact, I know very little about the technical side of avaition. Hope to learn heaps, however, if I do disagree, as in the case of Monarch charging passengers for meals I will say so!
By: wysiwyg - 18th August 2004 at 00:00
You’ll do just fine if you just start off with a slightly more open perspective. We all learn lots from others on here regardless of what we think we already know.
Regards
Ian

Can I be your friend? I could do with one, as I dont seem to be too popular on here, however I am not here to win popularity polls but to debate and not just to post company memos as a certain other member seems to at every opportunity!
By: MSR777 - 17th August 2004 at 23:47
Totally agree with that!!
By: danairboy - 17th August 2004 at 23:42
Nor do I, drove down standards as well as costs and cheapen the experience!
By: MSR777 - 17th August 2004 at 23:41
I may be a “tiny” bit biased as I was made redundant thanks to the ‘LoCo effect’ along with many others. I don’t hate them per se but I don’t like what they’ve done to this industry.

My views on LoCos are well known to many on this forum, so I’ll not bore you all to death with them again. With ref to the “Southwest sucess story” considering that it has operated thus far in an arena of artificially low fuel prices and has minimal dealings with flying internationally and no doubt has some cracking price deals with a certain planemaker (its not alone there!) it may not be the ideal example to present. I still think the bubble will burst and it will be a petroleum based one. The LoCo empire sits on foundations of cheap gas, subsidised aircraft prices and those “other subsidies” Hardly a good solid long term business model. I don’t know which group represents the greatest danger to the long term survival of our industry, the LoCo moguls or those who buy tickets on them with seemingly no thought of the “benefits” these carriers bring to our colleagues….Low pay….Low staff moral…..declining conditions……overworked and badly paid crews…declining prospects…etc…etc
It would seem that some are getting the airline industry they deserve…..but unfortunately the rest of us are getting it too, and some have the “sense of humour” to call it progress!

Curiosity has forced me to check the terms and conditions on the Fly Globespan website, it says you can’t consume your own beverages on board with the exception of water. So I guess it’s ok to bring on those fish suppers and donner kebabs ?
easyJet emphasise that the only alcohol permitted to be consumed on board is that sold by the crew, which obviously makes sense as it allows them to keep track of consumption, and stop serving if they think you’ve had enough.
As for only letting you bring your own Water, it may well be so as to make sure you’re not swigging a bottle of, say, Coke with a large shot of Johnnie Walker in it…
As for brininging your own, I’ve walked onto BA aircraft before with a bottle of Lilt from the gateside WHSmith before, and drank it whilst taxi-ing, it’s not a problem normally, even on ‘full service’ airlines.
But then again, you all know the contempt I hold the All Day Deli in… 😉

Hmm maybe ‘Out of Order’ was a bit strong from me, must be in one of those moods today!
I know that feeling 😉
