Hunter F6, Fighter Combat School

After a long break from aircraft modelling I’m getting back in the groove; lots to catch up on and learn/re-learn! This is an old Airfix F6 kit with after market decals and the pylons/drop tanks as well as the main undercarriage from the Matchbox kit. Not too bad for a start and the beginnings of getting my Hunter project up and running.

A model of a Hunter for every RAF squadron that used it plus one for every other user; display teams, other air forces, navy, RAE etc plus a few civilian examples – total at the moment is expected to be well over a hundred (40+ kits in the pile at the moment, scales 1/144 to 1/32).

That’s a fantastically ambitious project. I wish you well, particularly as it is my favourite aircraft of all. You must have rented a small hangar for the final display!! And yes, don’t forget WB188!!;)

Now that is a very nice model indeed I like it a lot. As you have said you are getting back into aircraft modelling can I offer just one constructive criticism. I notice the old problem of silvering of the decals around the edges. The current way around this which works for me is to brush or spray Johnsons Klear(old type with the blue top, kill for it if you have to:D) then apply the decals. In most cases you will not see any silvering at all. Then spray the model with matt, satin or gloss varnish depending on the subject. I use Airfix spray cans for this but practice first as if you are too close it can ruin the finish. It goes without saying mask anything you don’t want varnished.

Happy modelling and I look forward to your next offering!

Paul

Good luck! You must also include WB 188 the first prototype both in its first guise all over pale green with outsize upper wing roundels and in its second guise as the speed record breaker all over scarlet red. She was the prettiest of all the Hunters before they had to stick bulges and pylons all over her.

Very nice. What is your Hunter project?

A model of a Hunter for every RAF squadron that used it plus one for every other user; display teams, other air forces, navy, RAE etc plus a few civilian examples – total at the moment is expected to be well over a hundred (40+ kits in the pile at the moment, scales 1/144 to 1/32).

So far completed :
F1 – very basic/poor kit and decals
FR10 (conversion from a Revell FGA9) awaiting decals
